Thailand, is it still worth hanging out there?
 

My pals keep egging me on to move to Thailand to chill out for a while.

I have to say one thing that shocked me was how cheap and professional their medical is there. Dudes had all their dental and major surgeries for PENNIES on the dollar! They chilled in the lap of luxury too. It costs more for a plane ticket than for friggin heart surgery.

Didn't know you could save so much money there and service is getting way better. Pollution sucks in Bangkok though they tell me.

thailand's a great country, I was in pattaya in spring...everything cheap as fuck and truly great service and friendly ppl everywhere... nightlife is pretty hardcore, hookers and sextourists everywhere and by everywhere I mean all over the fucking place! bangkok is one dirty fucker, but there are some decent spots in thailand... let me know if you found something nice ;)

I was on the plane to bkk and the seat in front of me there was this fat guy checking his laptop... scrolling through pics of his wife, cars, properties and shit, looked all legit... then after we landed, he took out his cell and phoned his family, said something like "yeah, were's mom? ok I'll be home in an hour" and shit... then after we passed cutoms we saw him again: some officer asked him to open his big suitcase... and what fell out? dozens of europorn-vhs... for everybody to see... damn, I didn't want to be in that guy's skin... :1orglaugh

Eat your pad thai in the banglompoo area = $1 or you can eat your pad thai in Oriental hotel´s (one of the best hotels in the world) "Verandha" for around $10.

Been there several times latest years and I will move permanently really soon. If anyone have some info on good serviced appartements in Silom area or around please tell me...

Yes you can own propertly here and not land, but you can own land through a company.
It's a great place to live IMO

I have a friend I've not seen in 8 years. He's a hero in Thailand, their top legendary kick box champ. The government built him a stadium but I've not visited. Too close to the gangs ya know :)

Yet, many of the younger guys as soon as they get a few G's in their pockets, high tail it to Thailand, chill out and study or paint or sculpt. Artists can live there for like 1/5 of what it costs here and better they tell me. I'm not too into Asian women and Thai women are too short. I like some legs on my women.

Actually, you can own condos and houses in Thailand. Just not land. If you find the right people to take care of you, yes you can easiliy live on $20k a year. Just depends on your level of living. But internet is slow, and quite expensive if you want a decent speed.

It's not the tough, more and more Thais speak English these days, if you really want to learn it, well it's a tone language and they have 5 tones and it can be tricky at first, but i'm sure you can fine a little hot chick that will help ya.

I'm in BKK now visiting my friend's new apartment on the river and it's a 1 bedroom apartment with an amazing view overlooking the river and Silom. He only pay's $350 a month for rent. He has a maid and a cook too! Internet is much faster here.

You don't have to worry about watching Us Tv on the net it's on Ubc cable..Hbo..Cnn plus all the more popular serials..the only thing I've heard a few American friends moan about is no Fox news,,cable is about 50Us a month. A decent hi speed adsl connection will set you back about 25Us a month.

As far as accomodation costs go it depends on exactly where you want to live. A decent sized apartment in the farang ghetto's like lower sukhumwit will cost around 375Us. I rent a 3 bedroom house in a Thai residential area for 140Us a month if you run the A.c 24hrs a day like I do then utilities water/electricity etc will be about 60Us a month.

I've been able to save a lot of money here.

some more questions:
1. just how illegal is porn, will I have ay troubles if I only work on my sites from home - are the porn sites blocked? Do the ISPs monitor your traffic or are you going to be in trouble only if you produce?

2. how do you get your money from say sponsors, can you open a bank account and cash your checks/or get the money wired to you, can I use the epassporte card there?

3. what about visas? any chance of getting permamnent residence or do you have to fly out every 3 months for the rest of your life there?

4. crime - how bad is it?

5. cars - how much do they cost, are the roads good, how's traffic?

i guarantee that place is MANY miles away from anything... i live in a 2 bedroom penthouse and it costs me $2500 a month in the good part of Bangkok....

all the 'houses' that LOOK decent are FAR from civilization and you'd need a car of your own to live out there... also you'd have to sit in hours of traffic to go to anything in the city... and everything is in the city...

1. its illegal, but if youre only working on your own sites, you have no worries... just dont tell the girls what you do in case they wanna start shit... if youre shooting content, you wont get in any trouble, but you are 10000% more likely to get in trouble... i would NOT recommend shooting content in thailand...

2. bank wire to your account in your home country or your offshore corporation account... or if you get checks, have them sent to a relative's house and ask them to make deposits for you...

3. you will have to fly out every 30 days unless you get a non immigration B visa from your home country's embassy of Thailand.... its very easy to get in your home country... when u land it, you can then be on the 3 month plan... if you're short on cash for $50 you can get driven to the Cambodia border for same day visa runs, np.... i, personally travel to another asian country every 2 weeks or so, so my 3 month max in thailand has never been an issue...


4. crime is virtually nonexistent.. unline in america, i would not walk alone at night in dark streets in a big city... in thailand, its even OK for a female to do this... yes crime happens, but NOTHING like in the USA... this is the safest country i have ever been to... especially for whitey... Thais are VERy non aggressive people generally...

5. if you live in a city like bangkok or pattaya, you won't need or want a car... if you live in a cheap house many miles away from the city, which i dont know a single whitey who does, you would need a car... only thais live far out of the cities... in bangkok one only needs a cab... thailand has some of the worst traffic in the world... and they drive crazy... (not as crazy as brasil, but still bad)... in pattaya you'd rent a motorcyle or moped to get around.... and most cars have a 300% import duty tax... so they're way more expensive than in the USA.... used cars can go for cheap.. or u can rent one for 500$ a month if you REALLY want a car... but im pretty sure you'd regret it...

i have lived in Bangkok and had a nice apartment at the Emporium. here is my opinion

1) air.... this place has some of the worst polution on the planet and you almost can't breath on some of the bigger streets at times (sukhumvit etc) due to all the traffic and scooters

2) traffic. give up the idea of owning a car. it just wont make sense.

3) smell. combine 100 degree heat, exhaust fumes and streets that smell like garbage and its not pretty.

4) restuarants. some of the finest in the world and dirt fucking cheap. this is probably the best thing about bangkok for someone who does not think with thier dick.

5) rent. you can rent a big ass apartment with maids quarters etc etc very cheaply there. much cheaper than the in any western country. you can have a maid do all your cooking, shopping and cleaning as well for very cheap.

6) tourists. if being surrounded by middle aged, obese white guys with a girl that looks 12 under his arm disturbes you as much as it does me, then you wont like taking a stroll down the street EVER.

7) sex. its everywhere. its cheap. but unless you have a screw lose or hormone issues, you can only fuck so much before you have to start looking around and wondering what else there is to do.

Best beaches in Asia are in Thailand, if you like the sun and sea, this is one of them
