That's where my machines are, and they're rock-solid.

wired1 02-24-2002 01:01 AM

Yeah Rackshack is good, they have a cogent link, but most
of there traffic goes thru Verio and Time Warner...

LiveDose 02-24-2002 01:06 AM

Hi Adultwire & Wired1,

I've been looking to setup a server with Rackshack but I have heard mixed reviews. You guys seem happy with them so do you think most of the problems arise from people who don't know how to manage servers themselves?

As far as the connection uptime you have been satisfied?

Thanks in advance for your response.

I have 2 dedicated servers with rackshack... and since they are ran by the EV1 network, bandwidth and connection is never a problem. Honestly, they are amazing! Never downtime...

Freako 02-24-2002 01:19 AM

What about technical support?

I run a dedicated server directly with a provider (defunt exodus), and when I call I get a good response 24h/7h and they reboot/monitor my server on the spot.

What about them? Not like I get any crashes... but its important for me to know in case it happens... 10 mins downtime is too much for me.

Thanks! :)

AdultWire 02-24-2002 03:25 AM

Everything is the same but reboot tickets take "up to 10 minutes". They had some connectivity issues when they moved into their new network center in Dec, then I lost 20-30 minutes to a bad switch once.

AdultWire 02-24-2002 03:26 AM

P.S.. I was with Exodus until their brampton center went kapoot.

wired1 02-24-2002 04:00 AM

Yeah as long as you know how to manage and run a dedicated
server you should have no problems, they have had some complaints but I think that happens to anyone who has a very large customer base. That and most of the complaints I have heard have come from poeple that should be on a managed server (someone takeing care of the administration for them). I just dont care for Enism or Plesk control panels and that was why I moved. I only had same down time AdultWire experienced, But otherwise the entire time I was there I was satisfied with the service...

Joe_Blow 02-24-2002 08:36 AM

Four month now and no problems with Rack Shack.

AdultWire 02-24-2002 08:39 AM

All of the complaints I've seen are from people unqualified to manage a dedicated server. I think they're a good company, *if* their product is what you're looking for.

Freako 02-24-2002 11:02 AM

Hey sasush, stop spamming. fucking annoying. your servers are over priced.

Anyways, to people that have experienced rackshack, what is their reboot procedures (sorry to be picky over this), is it email or phone? icq? Thanks alot again :)

Would be nice also if a rackshack rep would appear from no where ;)

Freako 02-24-2002 02:22 PM

Their site doesnt state anything about this... all they say in forums is that their staff is not really smart... but that doesnt matter I'll run the server by myself.. I just want that cheap bandwidth and some resources to burn ;)

sandman! 02-24-2002 03:26 PM

Rackshack is a joke unless you consider a server being down as much as its up a good thing.

Im disputing the rackshack charge on my amx as we speak.

Freako 02-24-2002 07:28 PM

Its hard to blame a hosting company when you manage the server, my server with exodus as been up over 80 days now... (oh.. I bought it 79 days ago by the way... 1 reboot at installation and thats it) I'm just worried... anything can happen :S

heymatty 02-24-2002 07:41 PM

I had no trouble with rackshack

But remember the hardware is pretty crap, depends on what kinda site you run I guess. I prefer pay more for support and better hardware.
