Do you prefer LCD over CRT monitor?

Other than the fact that LCD monitors take less space, why do you prefer them?

Babagirls 09-18-2005 07:11 PM

sharper picture

Spunky 09-18-2005 07:13 PM

Better pic quality and colors

NoCarrier 09-18-2005 07:14 PM

LCD is cuter that CRT monitors. :thumbsup

sniperwolf 09-18-2005 07:20 PM

CRT is sharper... LCD saves space, looks smart and cool! but CRT is easier to clean

Were you working in a well lit area when you had your CRT monitor?

BiggleJones 09-18-2005 07:27 PM

LCDs are better for web, but if you do any print or heavy color management, CRTs are still the best for that.

Vitasoy 09-18-2005 08:23 PM

LCDs give off less radiation...

GweedZilla 09-18-2005 08:33 PM

LCD is easier on my eyes, being that I wear contacts, so thats a biggie for me. Picked up a Samsung 930b recently(19in).

rebel_vamp 09-18-2005 08:50 PM

LCD looks better but CRT can run longer than lcd

BigBen 09-18-2005 09:55 PM

LCD is much easier on the eyes than a CRT - even a good one. After 12 hours of staring at a CRT, it feels like my eyes are melting and gives me bad headaches. Definately go with an LCD if you are getting a new monitor.

I experienced the exact opposite. I bought a 18" Sony LCD flatscreen and that thing burned my eyes out of it's sockets. I adjusted the settings forever and even called their tech support which was worthless.

I sold it on eBay and bought myself a 21" Sony CRT monitor and I have now regained my eyesight.

lcd for me love them

bhutocracy 09-18-2005 10:20 PM

lcd's are sharper and more vibrant. And before you say it i have two 21" Sony Trinitrons (that set me back more than 5x19" LCD's) and i still think that... maybe they're getting a little long in the tooth or whatever but still.

WarChild 09-18-2005 10:24 PM

I love my Dell 24" and 20" widescreens. CRTs used to give me terrible headaches. That stopped when I switched to LCD.

KRL 09-18-2005 10:51 PM

LCD's are sharper and more vivid than CRT's.

IBM's T221 reaches 204 PPI, dot pitch of .12mm and displays up to 3840 x 2400 QUXGA mode with 9.2 million total pixels. About $8,000.

No CRT can touch that.

To me an LCD is much better for text "crispness" for reading etc. that's where you need it most IMO.

not only takes up less space but also puts out much less HEAT and uses way less power.

My reasons have been spelled out by the posts above but one added advantage is that there is a PSYCHOLOGICAL bonus having a flat screen. It 'looks' more efficient and influences your productivity. I have noticed a SIGNIFICANT uptick in productivity when I swapped out a few of my employees' CRTs for flatscreens.

V_RocKs 09-18-2005 11:40 PM

LCD...

Easier to read off of.
Bright without fading the picture to get that bright.
True colors.
True perception of the image.
Dramatically less eye strain.

bhutocracy 09-19-2005 01:35 AM

Isn't there also less EMR? or low frequency radiation or something? I know this 19" LCD HAS to be better than staring down the cathode ray barrel of a 21" CRT all day.

Rui 09-19-2005 04:11 AM

- more desk space
- the distance bettewn the monitor and my eyes is higher
- its much easier to do non-stop working for hours and hours and hours...
- small ;)
- uses less power

flashfreak 09-19-2005 04:26 AM

beta-tester 09-19-2005 06:00 AM

They are healthy :) And sharper and better picture quality!

u-Bob 09-19-2005 06:19 AM

stfuvt 09-19-2005 07:40 AM

LCD
I still love my eyes :winkwink:

spideriux 09-19-2005 09:41 AM

better colors.

Kenny B! 09-19-2005 09:48 AM

LCD's are far better when it comes to saving your eyes, unless you're doing intense graffics LCD's are better imo

media 09-19-2005 09:49 AM

I have dual monitors.. one LCD and one CRT, I have the CRT for the fact tht the pixel clarity is ALOT better.. when I do graphical work I cannot see the pixels as well on the LCD.. so I need the crt.. wish that I could just have the lcds though, as they look alot nicer...

My employees have lcd's only on their desks..

same with me. since I`m on two 19" LCDs and bought myself some glasses everything is o.k. .. `ve been on two 17" CRTs before (i think that`s why I had to buy the glasses lol ).. :)

but btw. it REALLY depends on the CONTRAST of the LCDs. I guess the more contrast - the better. The TFTs over here are 800:1 and that`s great if you work all day long in front of them..

CRT is way better image but I was just sick of having this monstrosity on my desk.
