How do people make serious money in this business?

Do people make the most money by running a host? By shooting content and selling it? Or is most of the money made by running a porn site that charges a recurring membership?

It sure as hell isn't from making galleries and sending them to tgps hoping they get listed.

the big money is either in running your own sites (with a good solid webmaster program and a spotless reputation (which can take 2-3 years to build)), doing massive recurring traffic type sites (AVS and freesites)) or being around for awhile and havingmassive traffic pumps...

If you aren't a good programmer or don't have access to one, you're pretty much screwed these days...things need to be automated to keep up

a reputation is very important too..I wouldn't say my income is even anywhere near the top, but I make more $$$ by brokering traffic and running provate deals than I did TGPing (of course I rememeber the days when you could do $100-200 a day submitting to tgps) It can still be done but is much more difficult...

everything is getting harder...my advice to most newbies is build a name and go to work for someone else...there are some exceptions, but those are few and far between

How much income should you be satisfied with as a TGP poster? As a paysite owner? I need numbers! I need something to compare with.

How much do you need? I know a guy here in Detroit who has a decent amount of gay and is always looking for someone who may want to buy some. Keep in mind, you are not going to find as much gay traffic as you would find in the straight market. Its pretty hard to come buy in any decent amounts.

I'm very picky about who I buy and sell to and from...most of the clients I sell to don't have webmaster programs, so I'm very protective of the traffic...

it also varies...I have a ton of 2nd and 3rd exit console traffic for dirt cheap rates as well as some more premium type traffic...it's all US-based traffic (the foreign traffic has already been sorted out)...hit me up, Clay and we'll see what we can do....

Krutoy, how targeted do you want the traffic? $100 will buy about 2500-5000 clicks or more, depending on whether it's exit traffic, se traffic, etc. 1st exits are worth about half a cent to a cent a peice..if it's deeper exits worth much much less...if you're buying traffic, you should always arrange an amicable trial period and they seller should show you where the traffic is coming from...you have to be extra careful these days...a lot of cocksuckers will rip you off for $50-100...

I should also add that you should differentiaite between raw clicks and unique clicks...always determine that before making any traffic deals...

so many hitbotters out there, be very careful who you deal with for traffic....just because they say "hello, how are you my friend" on ICQ, it doesn't mean they won't fuck you...

I was shocked and amazed at how widespread this practice is.

that's why I've almost completely stopped dealing with any foreign webmasters....just too hard to go after the cheats if they are overseas......

also don't forget to raise the red flag when hear them say they sold to boneprone or 12clicks

You're in the wrong place to start with. Larry Flynt doesn't hang out here, and I'd bet he makes more money off the Internet than all of the webmasters here combined. I'm sure we have some fairly successful webmasters here, but not on Larry Flynt's scale.

Basically, if you're looking for the Bill Gates-types of porn, they won't be found here or on any other webmaster boards. However, this should give you a hint at how to make serious money off porn: Have a lot of money to put into it. You have to spend money to make money in this and just about any other business. For me, that means reinvesting 80-90% of what I make back into my business.
