Webair a week or more to setup

Webair are now saying a week or longer to setup a $9.99 virtual hosting account. Does that seem a little long or is that standard with hosting companies?

sfera 09-18-2005 09:17 AM

thats long, they should have it set up within 24hrs Max IMO

Pete-KT 09-18-2005 09:18 AM

Where did you get that info? the last one i had setup with them took about 3 hours

mht 09-18-2005 09:20 AM

I just got that from their tech support, I signed up on the 15th September and still not setup so went online with them to enquire when it would be setup. Robert says I should know in a week or so.

BeatingSkull 09-18-2005 09:21 AM

I got hosted with them a few days ago with a different package & it took a few hours. worth the wait.

mht 09-18-2005 09:23 AM

Yeah I would have been very happy to been setup in a couple of hours.

Kind of wish I'd gone somewhere a bit quicker now.

BabeHunter 09-18-2005 09:24 AM

hmmmm....

FuqALot 09-18-2005 09:26 AM

The problem with their support is that they only have a few senoir techs. Everytime and I mean everytime I need something I get a message saying please wait for the senior tech to fix this. Because of this their support is pretty much useless. There are a few exceptions though who really try to help you but most of them have no idea. That's why my custom nameservers ($200 setup) are still not doing fine after 3 weeks. Might have to go with someone else.

chupachups 09-18-2005 09:28 AM

Actually, I have heard that from friends a couple of times aswell. Makes me wonder, and I would think twice before signing up...

mht 09-18-2005 09:29 AM

Oh, that doesn't sound good. A week to setup and poor tech support. I would have been happier if the guy had just set my account up instead of telling me to wait some more.

FuqALot 09-18-2005 09:31 AM

Other than that, they are a really great host who fix global things quickly. I still recommend them. It's just that they need to get some tech people.

Shaddam IV 09-18-2005 09:34 AM

lol what a joke.

How dare you attack Webair.

Stupid newbie. Webair rocks. Webair is good people. I am sure it was your fault. You can contact them by phone, e-mail, icq, smoke signs and with telepathic powers.

Yes, sometimes there is downtime, but AT LEAST the tech support is there 30 hours a day to explain the downtime situation..

mht 09-18-2005 09:36 AM

Whos attacking them, asked if this was usual for a hosting company?

LOL, had to laugh at the bit about it being my fault. I signed up and then went online, but maybe that's not contacting them enough?

I don't want to argue with Webair, I want them to host me!

No Carrier, I think you had us all fooled with that one :)

Dveron 09-18-2005 09:49 AM

Seems kinda silly it should take that long when they set up a dedicated server for me within 5 hours earlier this week.

:error Nah... You're just slow :1orglaugh

Last I heard, webair is getting more customers than expected ... so maybe that's a reason. Still, they should be able to handle it. :(

candyflip 09-18-2005 10:02 AM

I got a virtual account a few weeks back for something and the account was setup by the time I checked my email.

EDIT - but not with Webair.

jawanda 09-18-2005 10:04 AM

We have 6 dedicated servers with them. Well, actually we HAVE 4, and the first 4 were all setup within 24 hrs of payment (one of them was setup on Laborday weekend!) ... we ORDERED 2 more on Friday and are being told that they won't be ready until monday. So, in other words, sounds like they are a little bit backed up right now. :2 cents:

Other than that, support has been ok, not the fastest ever but reasonable, and the price is right :thumbsup

Webair is A.O.K. in my book.

On another note, all of my virtual hosting is through RealityCheckNetwork.com and I have nothing bad to say about them at all. Their support is EXCELLENT and their prices are damn good as well. Been with them for a long time with no problems.

SmokeyTheBear 09-18-2005 10:08 AM

I have noticed this with several other hosts recently. I think hosts get bogged down and forget who makes them money and why they are in business. If they don't give any specified time period , thats one thing ( although still fairly retarded ) but most of the time they say (instant setup etc ).

But as with several others in this thread, i have a webair account and mine was setup almost instantly, so i am presuming this is a glitch/error and not common practise..

mht 09-18-2005 10:16 AM

I don't think it is, Robert said it takes a week.

Just seems a long time for a setup.

latinasojourn 09-18-2005 10:22 AM

i've had dedicated boxes at webair for a few years.

IMO the main virtue of webair is high speed for surfers, reliability, uptime, and good connectivity to main population centers of the world. (do a multi-traceroute)

they are not the cheapest.

webair has had explosive growth in the past few years, and some of their tech people are more experienced than others, and i think the snags people are seeing is due to that explosive growth.

their connectivity infrastructure is one of the best in the world IMO, but lower priced competitors will begin chomping away at their market share if growth is not coupled by recruitment and training of superior tech people. sagi and brian h. cannot do everything now. Live support is pretty good. routine email support is somewhat slow IMO.

PbG 09-18-2005 10:51 AM

That is way too long, 1-12 hours tops is great turnaround time on a virtual account setup. Dedicated boxes generally take 24-72 hours. I'm sure someone from webair will be around soon to get you squared away tho ...

Sami 09-18-2005 10:57 AM

You should contact mike from Webair.

he'll help you out :)

mht 09-18-2005 01:00 PM

Yeah I'll see if he is on ICQ

Pete-KT 09-18-2005 01:05 PM

Never had a Problem with them and always get problems fixed within an hour, some people just seem to have issues

mht 09-20-2005 12:36 PM

Well 5 days now and still no setup. ICQ'd Mike, no response.

Emailed sales they say it's supports fault.

baddog 09-20-2005 03:48 PM

seems a little long as it only takes about 10 minutes to set up a virtual account . . . your order must have gotten lost

adultchica 09-20-2005 04:10 PM

They've done okay for me so far. I haven't had any problems at all, and the support is at least a little better than my last one.

Nah dude, I think this is a legit "we're backed up as fuck!" problem. As I stated in my earlier post, we have several servers with them that have all been setup within 24 hours, but the 2 new ones that were supposed to be setup this last monday are now slated to be ready by today (9/21 - 2 days late). I don't hold it against webair, we're still stoked on their service, but they are definitely backed up on installs right now.

:2 cents:
