to make a call from PC to phone you need Skype+ which is not free but it's still about 20 times cheaper for me

KRL 09-17-2005 09:41 AM

Vonage.com lets you connect with land line phones using the Net.

Unlimited calls for a flat rate.

:thumbsup

Basic_man 09-17-2005 09:44 AM

Viva the technology ! Google Talk and Skype are both good software for communitcation, and it's FREE !

Gungadin 09-17-2005 09:46 AM

I used to use skype, but since google talk was released in beta I've been using that... much better, and uses less resources. I'm around for a bit if you want to test it out by calling me, but it's $4.99 per minute if you want me to talk dirty to you.

tgpmakers 09-17-2005 09:47 AM

Skype is great but voipbuster just amazes me and Vonage sounds a great product but heard it's not very reliable might be wrong though.

blazi 09-17-2005 09:50 AM

I switched to vonage for my house and office lines last year, saving nearly $300 a month.

DateDoc 09-17-2005 09:53 AM

I'd love to use Skype but eBay will fuck it up shortly so I'll stick with something that is working fine for me.

I will say that you should have a UPS (battery backup) for your router/voip adapter if you want a phone line when the power goes out...

GoNe 09-17-2005 10:12 AM

Voipbuster.com - It's the shit :)

tranza 09-17-2005 01:04 PM

butterflybucks 09-17-2005 02:01 PM

Anyone constructed a good wireless system for Skype or Google? Be nice to walk around freely while using these online phone services.

Doesnt work. tried it.. probably too much abuse..certainly not reliable.

anyway.. i use skype.. biggest discovery for me this year.. Skypein that is.
We handle about 200+ calls a day now through 4 skype numbers works great.

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=24046

Get this and youre happy.. for a IM its not useful since nobody seems to use skype.

All the people that prefer Google IM: outside a few members of this board nobody i know uses it. I predict google fucked up with this one and they will never get it off the ground.
Ill pay $100 to the person the first person that reminds me i was wrong with this statement one year from now.

mrthumbs 09-17-2005 04:14 PM

more about Google talk:

Google is spoiled and thinks everyone embraces their new experimental technology.

I think they got a little too excited when they released a bare-bones IM. I havent seen
such a simple messaging application since i build my own for a ipx/spx network back in 97. So no way that can do anything in the world of MSN's and ICQ's.
KISS is good but its not what the public wants when there are competiting messenger out that are all beyond version 7 ;)

Voip will ONLY be a succes when its combined with hardware (as in an usb phone) and MSN will win the IM/Voip battle in 2-3 years.. Or maybe skype if they find a way to infiltrate the IM market (where the application is used for at least 80% for text messages only).

u-Bob 09-17-2005 04:20 PM

msn is winning...

Hmmm. weird. I never had one single call dropped, echo-ed, unsuccesfull connection or what-so-ever. Ofcourse I mainly use it for calls to Belgium and the netherlands in European daytime. Maybe that's an explenation for our different experiences?

mrthumbs 09-17-2005 04:25 PM

And for the kids wondering why Instant Messaging is such a big deal in the internet world: not only will it replace email but it will replace every way we communicate through wires. (fax, email, phone, mobile etc etc)

I tested it for the netherlands actually: after 5 calls or so i couldnt make ANY call for hours. I did some research and they have serious issues with load balancing their current resources because of the overwhelming amount of people trying to use the service. But im too demanding: im sure it works great if you make 2-3 phonecalls a day and hey.. its free so what am i complaining.

exactly. Great for calling my mother for an hour but for criticall phonecalls I still and probably always will use my landline. (Landline is required to have adsl here in belgium and calls are like 3c?/minute, and if it gets really wild I still can get an unlimmited plan for the landline from ?15/month)

uno 09-17-2005 05:00 PM

Is there a trillian plug in for that?
