Anyone ever try GIMP (Free Photoshop Alternative) ?
 

I'm using PS 8 on my desktop by I decided to try out GIMP on my laptop since its small and free.

I just can't get the hang of it. The Windows are free floating and I can't figure out how to make them stay on top. Anyone ever give this program a shot? I've seen things that can be done with it and its just amazing.

GIMP is great but of course it has a learning curve like everything else. I would say just as capable as PS. Now it is going to be like using PS for the first time.

does it output .psd's? If not, why bother?

I have it on my linux box. I'll be trying it out over the next few days since my windows machine is down for the count

i decided i didn't have the patience. have you tried irfanview? it is also free, and is pretty good. i use it sometimes, but mostly instead of photoshop alternatives, i stick with photoshop ;)
