What you're seeing is an insert. We are not getting that...since we like huge wood fires....so the opening will be larger than that....

gornyhuy 09-15-2005 05:53 PM

very sexy... I'm thinking about getting a wood stove insert put in my fireplace. Its not as cool and crackly but you can heat the whole damn house with it.

shermo 09-15-2005 06:20 PM

That is fucking beautiful! Would look great in my home!

Semi-Retired-Dave 09-15-2005 06:21 PM

I'm married to a network guy.....who has a bevy of 'puters. What is heat?

The temperature in our house is like that of a data center. All year long.

Verbal 09-15-2005 07:13 PM

It's very beautiful, but will certainly command attention in your room ... try to keep everything else simple.

wedouglas 09-15-2005 07:17 PM

Too small :2 cents:

LittleMack 09-15-2005 07:28 PM

Looks great

Translation 09-15-2005 07:34 PM

i dont like it at all. small, awkward and looks like something that would be in a horrible 1970's brady bunch show.

It already does. Sticks out into the room...It's an older house..and they did something few builders do anymore. The chimney is inside.....which is something they used to do back in the day for efficient heating....we took the face off, which was fugly brick....from floor to ceiling and found out we were out of code....a wood fire away from burning the house down....hence, a new fireplace.

The room is done in creams and beiges...very muted with splashes of colour and the furniture, while not minimalist is leather and comfy and not a lot of 'stuff'.....thanks for the advice!

I'll take pics when it's done...

Well not quite. It's deco, which makes it, what....1920s....but that opening won't be part of this fireplace...

But, hey..you're entitled to your opinion...

Stacey_JoinRightNow 09-15-2005 07:40 PM

It's really unique... cool and very elegant in style...

nice pics! :)

The dude from Mary Poppins could have cleaned that up right quick and kept you from torching the palace.

If you plan on staying in the house for a good long while I'd say go for it.

If you have any hope of selling the place anytime soon, ditch the style and go for simplicity and something more traditional and less artsy.

There is nothing that turns away buyers faster than someone else's tastes.

That said, it's very different, but belongs more in a Miami Beach bed and breakfast.

Pete-KT 09-16-2005 06:52 AM

Very nice show pics once its done

DarrenAustin 09-16-2005 06:54 AM

That is very different and so RAVEN!

myjah 09-16-2005 07:15 AM

I like it alot! It wouldn't fit in my current home, but it's just the type of original look I would go for. Congrats on your new fireplace!

Darren, darling, you know me well..it is soooo me...

Steve...by the time it's finished, it won't look quite like the picture. Actually, the lines are very clean...the house is fairly contemporary, although not modern....and the colour is cream, which is easy for another owner to decorate. I see your point...but, we actually called in a real estate person to assess whether or not this would detract or add....even though I plan on staying in this house, one never knows...so everything is done with resale in mind.

We're about to paint the entire interior of the house and it will be cream...thanks, though...appreciate the input.

tranza 09-16-2005 07:47 AM

don't know..it looks too modern for me
