Some of my Katrina pics (pics)

I'm getting some stuff sorted, finally got enough page building software installed to function.

I'm going to backtrack some of my handwritten notes into journal entries for the past couple weeks. In the meantime here's a couple pictures... posted here for the first time anywhere :)
http://edgeofdestruction.com/surge.jpg
This was outside of my window and the last picture I took during the storm surge, I tossed the camera into the attic shortly after this pic then went into doggie rescuing mode. If you look closely on the left-hand side of the pic you can see 2 oak trees slammed into the house in the background...
http://edgeofdestruction.com/aftersurge.jpg
This is an eerie pic looking down my street after the waters subsided many feet and I retrieved the camera from the attic. There is a street in this pic :Oh crap
http://edgeofdestruction.com/1.jpg
This is a brief walk south of me.
I truly am on the edge of distruction and incredibly the name "edgeofdestruction.com" was available... it's my blog now :upsidedow

Anyone suggest some easy blog software? I may just do it all manually, I really don't know at this point.

davethetruth 09-15-2005 11:15 AM

Wordpress is supposed to be the best blog software.

Amazing pics.

From the looks of the down houses it seems like you're lucky to be alive.

Manowar 09-15-2005 11:18 AM

Blogger.com is the way to go. It integrates with Google Toolbar makes it easy and quick to post anywhere, anytime.

I was really brave until the water rose to the window panes... then I was a big screaming sissy for about a half a minute, then I rescued the dogs :upsidedow

pornguy 09-15-2005 11:50 AM

Hey mardigras. Do me a favor. Send me a link to the unedited copies of any of the photos that you have. I am going to try and use some of them for a magazine article. I want exclusive stuff. So photos that you took.

Man you have such an awesome attitude! That is very cool that you kept a journal during all this.

Take care!

I would probably start screaming like a sissy as soon as the water started coming under the doors... :helpme

Great pictures, I hope we never get hit with something like that. Katrina was only Cat 1 when she went thru my neighborhood and that was bad enough.

Those are the only ones I have online so far (they are heavily shrunk/compressed). I'll upload some uncompressed ones in a bit (I lost my DSL modems in the surge so I am currently on 56K and the pics run 2 meg+- each). I have some mov files and still pics taken during the storm, after I pulled the camera out of the attic the movie mode no longer worked. I was able to take a number of still pictures of damage by turning the camera off and on in between each picture for a couple days after the storm, then it died. By then I was able to get some disposable cameras. I haven't developed any of those yet but was able to retrieve the pics and vids from the digital camera chip through the slot on my replacement PC. :thumbsup

Tell me where to contact, or hit me up at mardigras (at) bellsouth (dot) net
I'll send you some stuff.

I have a pic of a house dropped intact in one lane of a street and cars driving around it:eek2

When the water hits the level of the window panes I think the rules for 'big screaming sissy' change. thats some seriously messed up shit to have to deal with...

Halcyon 09-15-2005 04:03 PM

Amazing.... glad you are ok.

OG LennyT 09-15-2005 04:10 PM

I don't think anyone who wasn't there can imagine what it was like. And it's not as if this nightmare is over for you.

One of our sales rep's is from New Orleans and the stories he's hearing and conveying are literally unbelievable, or at least, nearly inconceivable.

Glad you're ok and all the best going forward.

greentea 09-15-2005 04:46 PM

I bet the mold cleanup wont be fun, good luck.

Glad to see you survived.

Spunky 09-15-2005 04:47 PM

Matt Collins 09-15-2005 06:33 PM

Good luck with the hardest part: rebuilding.

What's not fun is finding things that captured some of the surge water. The smell is about equivelent to walking into a broken public toilet that people have continued to use... :helpme

myjah 09-15-2005 07:36 PM

You got some great pics of it, sad as it is.

fusionx 09-15-2005 07:38 PM

Great pics - I'm glad you made it through as well as you did!

Definately start with blogger.com. You can use it to create the blog. Just set it to use your own domain and blogger will FTP your pages in no time.

I use Picasa 2 from Google to organize and review pics, and it has a utility called Hello! that makes it trivial to post new pics without ever going to blogger.com. You just select the pics in Picasa 2, click the Hello! button, and some captions, including HTML if you want, for links or bold, etc, and let it rip.

If you really want to run your own blog software, as mentioned above, Wordpress is very easy to set up and get working out of the box. You can find different template layouts all over the place. Installing them is really easy if you can use FTP :-)

Good luck - if you need any help hit me up on ICQ tomorrow - I gott aget some sleep tonight.

Stacey_JoinRightNow 09-15-2005 07:43 PM
