Try using frozen shrimp as bait. Guys use large treble hooks here in Wpg, they hook shrimp to it, toss it into the middle of the river and let it sink to the bottom... and in no time they hook a channel cat. One guy a few years ago, not 300 yards from my front door, caught a 38 lb'er (master angler award here).

Of course we don't eat river catfish here. Catch & release only.
