This game won't be a snoozer. Unless something weird happens with either team, I precict that both these teams are gonna come out full bore and try and dominate the other. This will be some classic great hockey, but it may also get quite rough...no love lost on either side.

In light of their last meeting (2-2 tie), I think this game will also end in a tie, invoking a classic shootout in which.......

I predict this:

Russia will lead by 1 goal in the 3rd, Us players get upset and after that we see nasty play. Loads of filthy maneuvers and back-tackling.

Or something completely different.

Both teams are so good that little things will make the difference.

All I predict is that if Russia is ahead by 2 goals in the end, USA will turn it into a boxing match instead of ice hockey ;))

Well, it's pretty much a given that the game is going to get very physical. The USA has always played a strong physical game (as does Canada at times), but the Russians have also learned over the years how to dish out the punishment.

I think the Olympic referees have been instructed to not let things get out of hand though, and as we've seen lately they WILL call a lot of penalties and give out game misconducts when push comes to shove. Part of me wishes they'd just let the players play, but I don't want to see a physical war out there either, I'm looking forward to some great skill and gamesmanship from both teams. Hopefully they took a cue from the Canada-Belarus game and the example they set.

Fighting won't get either team anywhere, not in the Olympics.

CDSmith, I'm not talking about penalties and gameplay. Did you watch that match in one tournament (damn I cant remeber which one) where AFTER the game They just wanted to fight. All the players were skating around the arena looking for a fight. I guess it was against CZ. Czech players finally backed out because they didnt wanna fight. This was all AFTER the game. It was a scandal.

Oh believe me I can remember a lot of really scrappy games between USA or Canda and the Russians, definitely. Back in the 70's when the Russians first came on the scene, we were amazed at how good they played, but they were shaken to the core many times by how solid our physical game was. I remember on game where the Russian coach nearly took his team off the ice completely because of the pounding they were getting by the Philadelphia Flyers (back when the Broadstreet bullies led by the dog and Mel Bridgeman and the boys were playing).

Those were good times :D

What time is the game?

Yet, names like Yakushev, Shadrin, Kharlomov, and Tretchiak became legendary to us young Canadian players. I used to LOVE watching the Russians play back then, they were definitely a team that made us proud when we beat them, and made us improve when we lost to them.

I am so looking forward to this game.

Yep, 3-0 for USA, looks like they just want it more than the Russians. It really sucks going into the 3rd period being down three goals.

That last US goal was a nice one. Penalties are what's killing the Russians too, as all three US goals were on the powerplay.

No, this game isn't gay, it's good hockey is what it is. It's just that the Russians aren't playing like they can, but maybe the third period holds some redemption for them. Fedarov is playing great, and so is Habibulin (sp?), but their deadly snipers are being held at bay.

Looks like it will end up being an all-North American gold final, and an all-Ruskie bronze game. And, I think that Belarus would stand a good chance against the Russians right about now.

As I watched Russia come out swinging in the 3rd, I wondered to myself if they had possibly pulled out their clones and sent in their real players.

That was the kind of hockey I'm talking about. Crazy all-out fanatical playing between TWO great teams that want the gold so bad they can taste it. Very nice hockey it was. I was sort of hoping that Russia would score so there'd be some overtime action, but oh well.

Team USA played 3 solid periods, the Russians only came alive for the third, and their penalties early on really killed them. I look forward to Sunday's medal games.
