A TV and Porn are two totally different things.

Porn vs. Television set
Internet vs. Circuit City

It's a buzz word that people are hooking into. I have many friends who only watch HD channels. They say regular TV is not worth seeing after HD. They are the ones who would buy access for the HD alone :)

I've got HDTV at home but find myself watching regular tv 99% of the time. I don't see how it can hurt anybody getting better picture.

people can also use a hdtv instead of a regular pc monitor, thus making the experience that much better for them....

it seems to be the future, it will take lots of time before (if it ever) becoming the new standart tho

I think the real question is cost vs. benefit.

With SONY's new FX1, I think the cost are pretty much clear - 3,000 - 4,000. As to benefits, I always believe there's a benefit in shooting in the highest possible resolution, all other things being equal. So from a production perspective there's a definitive benefit.

From a user's perspective, I think the benefit is not so clear-cut. On the PROS side:

> More pixels mean cleaner, bigger video

On the CONS side:

> Twice the size - it will take years on a modem - no instant or even quick gratification

> More pixels but do they mean anything if the production values seem low anyway (if it's poorly lit, it doesn't matter that your gray mess now is twice the pixels)

> Unless it's a niche/fetish that requires plenty of close-ups, HD is not that important to the average viewer. A pantyhose in HD though where you can actually see the threds definitely adds value.

All in all, I think it's a bit early for all porn to go HD - some niches however might get a much deserved boost.

In regards to showing too much definition....Are you saying that if you met a HOT girl and she had an imperfection, you wont have sex with her?
Its all about reality and with HD you can practically reach into the Screen.

A playboy exec made the mistake of saying that most models arent pretty enough for HDTV. He has since left Playboy and is now with Penthouse who has secured 46 million and launching an HD Channel. Its going to be the standard and new techniques to enhance the images are allready unfolding. Sony has been painting skin for years removing wrinkles etc....

that's a very good question man. i've been experimenting with it, but also been very cautious about it though.
all i know is that, if this WMVHD shit does take off, people might not ever need to rent DVDs again.

its a selling point sure but its pretty misleading, I dont think anybody offers true HD video. its shot with a HD cam and compressed in some way. An hour and a half DVD is 4.5 gig that takes about an hour and 15 to download on a maxed out 10MB line. When 100MB home connections become the norm it will be a must though for a succesful site, im not sure there are many places besides sweden where such connections are available for domestic usage though.

I doubt if many of them really understand what it's about yet.

The major difference will be in the samples they download.

If they are no better than anything else they will think "WTF is it all about".

If they are better they will think "Where can I sign up" assuming they are on a connection fast enough to handle it.

For me the future is in giving them the option of downloading a perfect quality scene over night while they are sleeping or having dinner. While still having the small instant gratification scene.

What I hate is people shooting in widescreen who simply do not have a clue how to frame a scene. :disgust

i saw the ultra hd trailer on brookeskye and fell in love... at full screen, it was so wonderful :)

a friend of mine is shooting his video in hd, and his members love it. also the screen caps from it are in-fucking-credible, so even if you didn't give your members the FULL hd, you'd have vidcaps the quality of amateur hi rez stills to work with.

All I know is that too many of the sites that have High Def porn have these huge sample files that are too big for your average broadband surfer to download in less than 15 minutes. That can't be good.

we can make them want it.. it's worked with plenty of other niches and concepts.

the ISP's are going to start charging for bandwidth in addition to access to the net. this could put a crimp in high def when the surfer has to pay for that bandwidth. and you know the ISP's will charge top dollar for the bandwidth.

We recently promoted some HD sites...and the numbers were 25% higher than the regular advertisers.....
