i have the no 2 spot on a KW that was searched 30,000 times a month... and guess how many clicks gave me that...

3 in 24 hours???

what da fuck is going on there? any similiar experiences (with a big drop in traffic)?

... what keyword ??

key to overture -- never be listed in the top 10 or people will hitbot your ass to cut into your advertising dollars, pulling you out of the hunt the next month....

kman, i know that but a listing below 10 (on non-competitive KWs) gets virtually no clicks at all... and i really wanted to test goto's traffic after their new relevancy changes... it's fucking obvious that i can test shit :feels-hot

They're here in Pasadena with me... I heard they just put through a really big advertising deal with Microsoft...

well, as far as i know MS are not into the adult business (yet) :Graucho

till now, i've always found the overture search suggestion tool to reflect the true searches and the clicks on my listings were really just as i expected... however, this very KW (30,000 searches a month) should have brought at least 75-90 clicks... and i'm talking of 3 hits only...

however, it seems that no one is experiencing the same :(

Players like Overture and other big reputable ppc engines are supposed to have proper protection from click bots such as any hit from the same IP in a 3 hour period or so is only counted as a single hit.

Overture has this :)

Numbers 1-3 get major hits because they show up at the top and surfers like clicking the top 3's, seemingly even before reading enticing descriptions that will get them to click on links lower down and 1-10 are the general links listed on affiliate sites and that's why numbers up to and including number 10 get much more traffic than numbers greater than 10 that have much less web exposure.

Some of overtures major partners only show the top 2 or 3 overture results on there normal search pages.

Wow, that is one of the most annoying signatures I have ever seen. Anyway, it is entirely possible for it to be a hitbot. In fact, with those stats, I would guarantee it's a hitbot. Most of the hitbots out there use proxies. Some hitbot users have a list of several thousand proxy servers.

The clickbot protection overture has in place is complete crap and easy to get around. Chances are they could set up something a little bit more effective, but why would they want to?

They make a fucking killing off of the clickbots...

I also have 8 keywords totalling over 300000 searches/month. I have the number 1 spot on all of those keywords. In the last 2.5 weeks, I have seen 15 clicks. Overture is fucking bullshit.

As for hard to read text on my website I think you need check your own that's listed in your profile, eroticfusion.

I've tested all my sites and they are perfectly readable and functional from 800x600 to 1280x1024 and upwards.

Eroticfusion has VERY TINY text on front page and at the footer.

Some banners out of alignment.
And you have some black text on a dark red background.

[That's for BOTH IE5.0 & Netscape 4.08 Pro - Resolution 1280x1024 .. At this resolution my sites have bigger more readable text .. Thus if my text is hard to read that would make yours invisible I assume]

Maybe you need check your own sites 1st :winkwink:

Or maybe you had your IE fonts set to smallest or something...

Funnily enough that had me caught out the other day when I was testing that Netscape and IE were still looking more or less identical... I forgot I had it changed to smallest when I was fiddling around with a few tests a few days before... Took a lot of looking around in the code to see if I had changed something I forgot about,(because I run most tests on Netscape when building) before I thought to check on IE font sizes and found the culprit.

Btw as for conversions I do easily under 1 in 150 and average sales are around $100, if you signup and do the same then that will be $25 you'll pocket on just 150 clicks and 5% for what any webmaster under you makes on sales :)

The overture search suggestion tool is just that ... And it's based on past searches and NOT ACCURATE ... It's based on more old data than newer data I believe.

It may even be year old data if you're getting so few clicks when the suggestion tool mentions tens of thousands of searches on your keywords per month.

The more new keywords accepted by Overture the less searches will be performed on the more obscure ones. This would have a big impact on Overtures SST if it's working with old search stats.

Least you're not getting any form of click botting on your links if you have buggerall for clicks ... lol :evil-laug

Make sure also that the keyword searched features prominantly in the link description, that should add a few more hits to your link if you haven't already done that.

AWC - What was the URL showing at the top of the page you visited and what resolution were you running?

[The base warning page is just for engines and hasn't been changed in like forever,(and does look weak :)) ... But the main pages for toys shouldn't derive any negative comments like you posted - I use other special urls for the rest of our traffic]

As for 150 I was giving worst figures possible so not to have things looking too good to be true :)

*sigh* very mature.. responding to a helpful suggestion with a tit-for-tat critique defensively.. it's not the size of your fonts that worry me (i have it on "smaller") it's the fact that on your page you have an ultra pink background and then you're using white and slightly darker pink text on top of it, theres about 5 different fonts (obviously excluding banners) and the layout is very haphazard.
You're main page looks like a circle jerk... i mean you must be making a little money off of this but a retailer that hides the entrance to his site like a CJ???
Once inside the main header text is farily horrible and comes off cheesy instead of "hot" (with flames :) ) once again - font choice.. hell i see you've even used comic sans in there.. oh dear..

i'll acknowledge that my fonts aren't large on the warning page, but i'll submit to you that it's hardly critical information.. theres a big enter and leave button... how many times do you read warning text? the banner/button slightly out of alignment, the size of the text, the grey text on the dark background are all couresy of the guy that cuts it into HTML.. as he is the senior partner in the business i don't complain when i see little things like that, he's about as bad as you at taking criticism.. i let the last 5% of my perfectionist tendencies slide...

HOWEVER, my reply to you was NOT a tit-for-tat, was a statement of fact... If you wished to give an opinion on the site that you perceived as helpful I doubt you'd put in words like the above in "IMPRESSION", which to me implies you are saying that the operation is NOT professional, but if we pay someone enough money we can pretend to be.

As for white writing on a pink background, that is for the affiliate signup page and the background is not a flat pink, but a jpg background, this text is perfectly legible,(cepting 2 little orange bits to help with the engines only and should be barely noticeable).

And the main site has dark coloured writing on a light powder blue snow jpg background.

As for font choices the idea isn't always to have ones sites in the running for the most aesthetically pleasing, but rather to get clicks and get sales, I get a sale out of every few customers to this store,(I say customers, rather than uniques, because more often than not each unique becomes a customer) if they don't buy from the store then they will have usually been enticed by my advertising and some of this "OH DEAR" Comic text into clicking numerous ads,(Not by being tricked, but rather by being INTRIGUED & ENTICED) and end up as a sale for one of the advertisers that I run on this site.

I make money even if they don't buy what they originally came seeking to purchase... I think that's a pretty good deal :)

i agree the few faults regarding text you saw at eroticfusion were statements of fact and thats fine - i agree with them.. however theres not a lot i can do about them.. i can only guess that he used that grey text on a dark background to make the link to his site unobtrusive.. ? who knows it's not good. and the unaligned banner/button? also not the best.

yeah it's straightforward for an adult webmaster - but is "joe public" going to find it as easy to navigate as www.adultshop.com? as i said you must be making enough money off the link exchanges to not worry about the customers that get spooked.. and thats cool.. but i would have to say even those with a lot of internet use under their belts wouldn't hop inside purely because they wouldn't be sure that theres actually a toy site under all that "geocities 5 years ago". Once again though.. your business, your perogative.. you've got the user logs. you know how many people make it inside.
