Why are Americans so petty?
Remember the world series with the Blue Jays, and the Braves, the mairnes walked out with the Canadian flag upside down? It is impossible to turn a flag upside down, there is a peg, it always is on top. Last night the U.S. woman's hockey team had the Canadian flag on their dressing room floor. When asked about it, they said, "They promised not to step on it." Why do Americans do such things? Especially in these times. Busting each others chops is part of the game, but being insulting, and unsportsman like is another. If any Canadian team did what they did, I would be embarassed, and freakin' as to why they would do such a thing. Such arrogance! Go Canada Go!:thumbsup http://www3.sympatico.ca/baron/indexcanada.gif

we are Pretty
Not Petty you forgot the R :1orglaugh |
5 minutes for unsportmanslike behavior
Both teams, USA and Canada |
Burn the flag, it has touched the ground.
|
Bad sportsmanship happens in every country. As an American Im a bit embarassed if the American team did that. You also cant know what is said during the hockey game. Its common for certain players to curse at opposing players and then things get out of control. Maybe someone on the Canadian team was being rude and made the competition personal, maybe the American team needs a kick in the ass. Who knows, certainly not you or me.
Bad sportsmanship happens in every country... |
The point is not bad sportsmanship, punch the fuck out of each other! The point is; that is a nations flag! It is not the nation you have a problem, but an indivual. Disgracing a nations flag is beyond the game. Burning an American, in the states is illegal, but fucking with another nations flag is ok? Go Canada Go!:thumbsup
|
Fuck Off! Whenever the American flag is burned or pissed on or whatever, everyone else in the world either turns a blind eye or cheers. Oh, but don't let it happen to any other country, God forbid.
|
Could it be actions like last night, that help us turn a blind eye? When our "friends" disrespect our flag, now we should stand up to others who disrespect your flag? Go Canada Go!:thumbsup
|
I could be wrong here, but the little that I have seen in television the US flag has only been burnt in certain arab countries or other countries that USA actually has an open conflict with.
And if an individual/pathetic group does it, it doesnt mean a sports team representing a country should do it. This is fucking ridiculous, is it true? Where did you get this news? |
Yeah, that has to be it. America is evil. Boo America. Give me a fucking break. Go build a gallery or something.
|
Yeah but think about the Jays back then, none of them were canadian. Just all brazilians and americans anyways, so I didnt see any disrespect...
|
Yeah that marine thing was funny. They didn't do it on purpose however im sure. The thing about the "peg" that is an "English" thing, our flag doesnt have a peg on the top.
|
In a "Game" i think the canadian flag represented the opposing team, not the opposing country.
Don't flip out! |
Why is Gretzky a cry baby?

Its not illegal for an American to burn an American flag. And, not all Americans put the Canadian flag on the floor. I like the way this thread addresses all Americans but in your own words you say the blame is on individuals. "...It is not the nation you have a problem, but an indivual.." But yet the thread was started as "..Why are Americans so petty? .." This is my last post on this thread and ones like it. I have come to the conclusion that only the worst assholes from each country start these threads and they are too stupid to even bother with. |
Not into sports at all.
But I am an American, on behalf of the rest of us, I presonally don't put flags on the ground, and am sorry for the disrespect. But, maybe you should ask the question, why do people stereotype others or generalize to the point where its embarrassing for both sides, who's more a fool, the idiots participating in the event or the idiot spreading the negative energy.:2 cents: |
PS - If you ever compare all Americans to a bunch of women in a room dancing on a flag, I'll bite your leg off.:1orglaugh
|
getting so het up about flags is petty
|
Het up? Are you from Texas?
|
I didnt see the flag dancing thing, if it happend it was petty.
But since you asked we are petty, because we dont have much else to worry about, except little things. Too much of the good life i guess. |

Read your own newspapers. This is from http://www.canada.com/sports/olympics/ taken from the Calgary Herald.
"...The American players were adamant they didn't stomp on the Maple Leaf. In fact, forward Julie Chu said she was offended by the suggestion she and her teammates would stoop to such disgusting behaviour. "Maybe they used (the rumour) for motivation. Whatever gets them fired up, I guess, but we definitely didn't do that. For anyone to suggest we would step on another country's flag, that's definitely not the truth." End of subject. |
Why are Canadians so quick to stereotype Americans?
Hopefully you will say not all canadians do that, and if you do say that, then you'll also have to ask yourself why you say "Americans", as if we are all that way.. Although these gals may have represented America in a sports even, they do not represent Americans as a whole.. or even close to it. Yes it was disrespectful to have the Canadian flag on the floor, but I didn't do it, nor did anyone on this board. My neighbors didn't do it, millions of people didn't do it. A few young girls did it. They aren't me, or us. Steven Vezina of the Canadian Roller Hockey team tested positive for stimulants and steroids which cost them the gold in 99.. Does that mean all Canadians are on that stuff? |
people from canadia (yes canadia) are afraid LAPD will get bored during their lunch break one day and instead of beating down some minorities, come up and take over canadia before thrie shift is over LoL
:ak47: :BangBang: |
We all know, if we think about it , that is any of those situations had been the American flag that there would be a hell of an out cry.
However, with that said, one thing I have learned since I became a 'citizen of the world' that very few countries put as much symbolic vaule in their flag. When the American teams do stuff like that they put their own vaules onto the situation. So, they think it is all hurtful and painful to the other team when in fact the actual desegration of the flag means very little to most other countries. It is the mere fact of how unsporting Americans thought they were being that annoys. The flag burnings we see on the tv are done soley to hurt Americans because they know how big a deal the flag is to us. It means nothing to them. As an American who gets to see things from an outside perspective I am often out right ashamed of the way some of my countrymen behave towards other countries and cultures. Most of it comes from ignorance and arogance. A deadly combo. |
Quote:
First of all you assume that this rumor is even true...someone already posted an article in which the American women's hockey team has denied this rumor...so when you speak of ignorance and begin to point fingers...remember there's always ...oh fuck it your kind will never learn. |

you fucking commie traitor, go away before i send mccarthy over your hut! |

Well, first of all I was talking in general terms not specifics of this case. Secondly, I said *some* of my countrymen I did not say the country. Thirdly, I do not talk nothing but trash about America. There are a lot of very good things about America but I will be dammed if I am just going to look at everything with rose coloured glasses. When you live in a forgien country you are never more American. Every where you go you are introduced as 'my American friend' and so forth. You are so much more aware of your nationality than I would suggest most people walking the streets of Main Street USA. When the United States does something I think is good I will stand up for it against all criticism. However, when we act like idiots I will say that too. Also, I will tell the British when they are being xenephobic, which they have tendency to be. I try to see things fairly and not with my red, white and blue contact lenses. I love having an idea how the world works which is more than *most* Americans do. It isn't their fault but our country is very isolationist. Did you not learn that in 5th grade history? It hasn't ended. American's are isolationist and jingoistic and the British are xenephobic and have a hard time dealing with the death of their empire. Both are great countries but both have their faults. |
Oh, and I am a socialist not a communist...ther is a difference.
|
Spending some time abroad does good for anyone.
You get a little perspective. Something else than what you see on TV and what your fat ass mamma and redneck daddy told ya ;)) |
women hockey sucks worldwide!
|
Sjayne
Okay, why didnt you just say that to begin with. |
When someone shows disrespect or comtempt for another's flag like that it says more about that person than about the thing they are deriding.
When I see a mob in some third world country burning the American flag it just impresses me how dispicable those people are. So walking on the Canadian flag only brings disgrace to the American Hockey team. They should be shamed into making a public apology. I think the Canadian flag is one of the best looking flags. I also love when they play "Oh Canada." We used to have it on the jukebox at our college bar because we had a lot of Canadian hockey players. Great national anthem to play after about 10 beers. |
Do you people not know how to click a fucking link or read?
Someone already posted a link to an article where the US women's hockey team has denied this. R.I.F. Reading Is Fundamental:thumbsup |

ada[/IMG]When I started this thread it was not asbout hate. I am a bike messenger in Toronto, I see 50 miles, not kilometeres, a day of the city. As of 9/11 I have seen soooooooooooo many American flags on cars, in apt buildings, in offices, hanging on balconies. in windows, I shit you not, if the pain was felt, it was felt in Toronto of the evil that happened on 9/11. On this day I dare you to find an American flag in Toronto, in Canada! Canadian people loved the Americans, until they turned on their friends, how can you justifty this? If a friend fucked with you this way, would you still talk to them? As I said once before such arrgorance! AS YOU SEW, YE SHALL REAP. This is from An Ex-Cpl of the 48 Highlanders of Canada. Go Canada Go! :thumbsup I am sure the peolpe who have posted their opinions, understand the meaning of pride, and I hope they were proud enough to serve their Nation |

YOU FUCKING MAKE ME SICK!!! You spell, (american), with a capital, and Canadian, in lower case! FUCK YOu!! I thought it was an ADULT web master site! You, once again have brought it to an American level, un-intelligent, and lacking real in-site. You have no case to justtify this action!
You know why Canadians hate Americans? They just want to be like the rest of the world! I should have called the thread, "Why does the world hate Americans?", read the following it explains!! You would think after 9/11 the arrogance would stop, but I guess not! |
Why do I bother too many retards!http://www3.sympatico.ca/baron/cards/canada.jpg
Bring it on bitch! I will boot fuck you if you fuck with this flag! Go Canada Go! :thumbsup |
Jesus! There are sooooooooooo many stupid people here!
|
pimpnography, "you think the arrogance would stop?" youd think after the first idiot posted ridiculous hateful comments on a public board that the next guy would see how stupid they look, but as you can see, it hasnt stopped anyone"
So ramble on, bare your flags and talk your seperation, its actually what you want deep down isnt it, a seperated world, if not youd move to America! :thumbsup |
OK, everyone shut the fuck up and decide who's gonna make me a damn sammich and wash my truck!
|
You know me to a T!!!!!! That is what i want!!!! Loyality is the quailty I respect, you offer that, and I will give all that I am! Go Canada Go!:thumbsup
|
I think some people just have to have someone to hate..
Some people hate the people 'on the other side of the tracks', some seniors hate juniors, some brothers hate sisters.. yada yada.. I've only been to Canada once, and I loved it. The people were super, but I did have one conversation with this super hot gal that said she felt that Americans thought Canadians lived in igloos. Her name was Iris and was the hat check girl at the Lamplighter Super Club.. Mm mmm mm!!! My point? People don't really hate.. they just don't understand. We all have 'individuals' in our countries that aren't the sharpest tools in the shed, but they shouldn't be looked upon as respresentative of the whole. As for the guy carrying the Canadian flag upside down.. It was a careless mistake because somone wasn't paying attention, but it resulted in much more than that, even though that's all that it was. All mole hills need not be made into mountains. Perfection is something none of us will achieve.. |
This is all well and good, but my truck is still dirty and I don't have a sammich in my hands yet...
