"The Biggest Loser" tv show...Anybody watch it?
I never, ever made fun of fat people growing up or in my toons. I was always wary of what it's like to be picked on so I didn't do it.
I've never been overweight til recently and I know I can burn it off so no prob. Yet I'm now aware of the hardship people who are overweight have to deal with. Now I see this show and it's about a bunch of peopel challenged to lose the excess to get a prize. For people with a high metab like me it takes alot to get fat but then it's easy to burn off. Yet there are folks out there not as fortunate. I like to pump iron and that's what put me into the big range. Yet I now know how to avoid that shit. So I'll be watching this show to see how these people do as it should be an eye opener. What's tough is living in America there's food all over the place. To ask someone to diet is like asking someone living in the desert not to drink fresh cool water. It really must be torture to some people. |
Yeah, I've seen that show. Well for me it's just a matter of self-descipline. For overweight individuals, losing weight is not killing yourself, it is simply a sacrifice or a challenge you need to take in order to achieve your goal.
|
I seen some of it tonight, looked like there was a bunch of fat people with weight problems. In my opinion it looked they couldn't wait to eat!
|
Watching it now on west coast - its cool if they can just get HEALTHY
|
I watched the first season of this show, and I'm going to follow this one as well.
|
i've watched it..it's really hard to lose weight for those people

Nothin' like building muscle to burn fat. That and cross country skiing. |

their problem is a complete lack of motivation on their part. when someone there is to guide them, look how well they do. the hope is that they will take what they've learned (discipline being the main principle) and continue it, and i believe most in this fortunate situation will. |
Yes and I'm going to be watching this one closely. :)

Take it from someone who used to weigh 175 pounds and now weights 147. The thing that makes losing weight hard isn't "motivation" . Its the pain. Losing weight hurts. It hurts like a motherfucker. You're constantly hungry for the first two weeks, and youre mind gets into a panic, because you think youre gonna die if you don't eat a huge meal. Even though you know deep down you're not. The only reason why I was able to lose weight was because I accepted that the pain wasn't going to go away. I knew that the only way to win was to endure it. Now at 147 pounds, I don't feel massive hunger pains. I sometimes forget to eat. The only reason is because im 147 pounds. The pain these people on the biggest loser must be feeling....its gotta be agonizing. |
Wo! Wait freakin' minute!!! These people lost like 20lbs in one freakin' week??? That's like boot camp shit in the desert!
No, tell me these people didn't lose like 20-28 lbs in one week! |
Quote:
I'm just 20lbs overweight and I know what you mean by pain. I eat less now and gained the weight in one month as I wasn't exercising for a month and a half. That shit changed this week. I just went back to my old bodybuilding advice and pounds are melting off. I've never, ever heard of anyone losing 20lbs in a week unless it was water. Burning that much fat is probably against the laws of physics so I'll research what happened on this show. Trapped in the Andes mountains without food or desert training I can see losing that much fat but you have to intake the proper nutrients and water. Pain barrier is something I can deal with. Learned that in martial arts when I was like 5 years old, then in Yoga classes. Tai Chi is an awesome fat burner though. I just found out why. If you lost that much weight then hats off to you. That took serious discipline and means you can accomplish anything. |
yeah losing weight in alot of peoples cases is not as easy as alot of people think it is

I used to be very big over 350 and have lost over 100 lbs in the last year. When I first started I lost about 35 lbs in the the first 3-4 weeks. After that it slowed but I still lose about 2 lbs a week now which is more normal. |
Okay, I'm hooked on this show. Jeez, Ruben lost 68lbs? He looks 20 years younger!
My goal is to get my waist back down to 27-29. Just to piss people off. |

Yet pumping iron builds muscle an muscle needs lots of calories to burn to keep rolling. That's why bodybuilders can put on like 20lbs during off season and then burn it up fast for competition. I remember I didn't have any fat from the age of 12 to 32. Now I should weigh 400lbs with all the food I eat but I can't get that large. My body won't let it go that far. Just a failsafe I guess. Gotta cut the bad calories for sure. |
Besides, several years ago there were a rash of webmasters having heart attacks. Everyone of them had gotten overweight and out of shape. We had an epidemic if some of you old timers remember. Had to literally go get guys and walk em' around and get em' into the gyms. A sit down job can take a toll on you.
|
The first 10-15 pounds is all water weight. The rest is a mix of fat and muscle I'm guessing. When you are that big, your body naturally expects you to be putting 4000 calories in. Your system is thrown into shock when you start eating 1500, and the weight just flies off at first I think the first few weeks is the easiest as you see immediate results on the scale. The hard part is when you are closing in on your goal and you've been stuck on the same weight for 2 weeks.
Anyways, they didn't lose 20 pounds of fat. |

I lift weights 3 days a week and do cardio exercise 1-2 days a week and I adopted a strict vegan diet. No meat, no dairy, no sugar, caffeine or booze ( about once a month though I cheat a little and have one or more of those things ) I've never suffered hunger pains because I eat a lot, it's just low calorie food, fruits and veggies and stuff and the weight has just dropped off. I can't belive how much better I feel now as compared to a year ago. |

It's amazing how much better you feel after a couple weeks. |

yo fuck them fatfucks
lol vicious as hell....no fuckin will whatsoever...its easy to intend to do it but you have to force yourself what you think everyone else around you just likes to eat healthy shit? i hope they all die from heart attacks before having the chance to reproduce (since so many of em are virgins) exercise yourself because right now your fat but in 15 years youll be weak and un healthy. the point is NOBODY LIKES SALAD but do you like everything in life? you wouldnt look so bad with a lil less fat a lil more muscle and self comfidence. may be some new clothes and a haircut. FUCKING excuses for human beings :) |
I have only seen some episodes and I found it okay, but not that great as a show.

well, there is no fresh cool water in the desert , so its not all that hard :winkwink: |
What's sad is we live in a culture that foster's the 'ok' to overeat, consume more, produce more, be more, etc...to a level of severe unhealth
There is by no means a legit cop-out for America getting fat other than it has become our culture. Big biz is partly to blame but so are our personal choices at large (pun intended). It's high time we get our shit in order on sooooooooooooo many levels or we'll look to an even MORE unhealthy future....on soooooooooo many levels :/ . |

Problem comes with cooking the food. Once you cook it you lose half the vitamins and minerals. So the more raw the better. Yet for me, a guy who lives for ice cream I have to pump iron or walk, dance etc. Food processed to death is just that. Since I pump iron I have to have a gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. That's alot of meat except I discovered rice protein a few years ago and lemme tell you, if you wanna get cock strong diesel, add rice protein to your diet. That shit will put muscle on you that's muscle worth having. Low carbs but you need to add other sources for well rounded amino acid intake. Fat can fuck you up. I had no idea how much it can fuck you up. there's a great article on fat right here: http://www.mikementzer.com/bodyfat.html That article says it all. I live for hot cobbler ala mode and that's my weakness. I don't do drugs, alcohol or smoke and all I had left was ice cream and now breakfast cereals with fruit. It ain't fair I tell you! A man's got a right to ingest poisons! What's with these egghead scientists? Can't they invent a 'no-fat' pill or safe cigarette or non detrimental alcohol??? It's the fucking year 2005, no flying cars, no talking dogs, no moving sidewalks and no robot love slaves that look like Raquel Welch! WTF is wrong with these scientists for goodness sakes??? :) Anyhow, I have to go through the pain barrier and eat healthier and leaner. I'm sure I'll be able to knock off 10 lbs in the next two weeks and that's the first step. I enjoy workin' out and after all these years I still listen to my Rocky's Greatest Hits for motivation :) |

Problem in the U.S. is same worldwide though: TASTE BUDS! Our tastebuds rule our lives. Plain and simple. Taste/smell is the mind contolling mechanism that shifts humanity. The money maker makes foods and treats that appeal to the taste. He who skillz da' buds rules da' world! On the east coast there's a snack called 'Funny Bones'. When they first came out you almost had to shoot people in the streets. They were so delicious. I'll never forget. Girls would chase you down the street if you had 'Funny Bones'. Most west coast kids never had em' so when you dish them out they either fall over in a coma or they want to follow you home. In the old days they were awesome, nowadays they're like made from some artificial alien goo. There's a company on the east coast called Freihoffers. They make cakes and stuff. If you unleashed Freihoffers' chocolate chip cookies and chocolate icing cupcakes on the west coast you would have to call in the national guard. How nutritious are they? See what I mean? It's tough. A real battle to change your dieting lifestyle when entire corporate mega-companies are working around the clock to come up with a new taste or double triple burger bacon combo thingie. We Americans are fat because we can't 'not' see food 24/7 |
I think another problem we have is with soda. My problem was that I"d down 4-5 cans of pepsi a day. That's 1000 calories right there. The minute I started drinking water exclusively is the day that I didn't feel hungry as much.

We now live in an ondemand society. Go to a store and look. People get pissed if they have to wait for 5 minutes in line at the store or at McDonald's. You can now get anything you want when you want it so it has become easy to eat bad. And bad food is big money so you actually now have to seek out more healthy foods where it used to be the other way around. So these day's it's not hard to take in 4000 calories a day everyday and unless you have the metabolism of a cheeta you're going to put on weight. Also we have begun switching from a labor based society to a desk based society. I know of all the friends I have only two ( my brother who works construction and another friend who is a cop and that is 90% sitting in a car or at a desk but there is some activity ) have jobs that are not sitting at a desk or in a cubical all day. One thing people don't do when they try to lose weight is eat. They think that starving is the way to go. What I've been told is that if you are hungry and you don't eat something within about 60 minutes of becoming hungry your body will start to go into a survival mode. It can't tell that you are planning to eat in a couple hours or that you are cooking now, all it knows is it wants food and you are not giving it right now. So it will have a higher tendency to store some of that food as fat than if you eat regularly throughout the day and are not hungry. |

Back in the 80's I was chugging a 6 pack or two of Sunkist soda when it first came out. Months later was at the doctors for caffeine problems. I told him I didn't have a caffeine problem cause I only had 1 or 2 cups of coffee a day. He then broke out that caffeinated beverage chart and sure enough, my two favorites, Mountain Dew and Sunkist Orange were at the top of the charts. Just before Jolt cola came out. Soda is a main culprit. I weined myself off. When it's hot out I live for slurpees at 7-11. They don't make em' healthy lemme tell you. they should have grape juice or apple juice slurpees. Real juice not fake shit. I'm onto water, cranberry juice, blueberry juice for the next several weeks for sure. |
I've watched it now and then. The two things that bothered me about it. The first was that they rarely discussed food intake but instead most of the focus was on levels of exercise the average person isn't going to be able to do but I understand it is a game show. The second was when people were beating themselves up for only losing four pounds a week and such. Losing four pounds in a week is an outstanding accomplishment - especially if it is done in a healthy manner.

We're all different and that's the key to optimizing fat. fat ain't bad but too much of it is deadly. |

I think those people have a pretty strict diet.
Knowing what you eat seems to be the key for "fat" people. I'm back on my routine, trying to turn the fat into muscle. My one problem right now is a strict diet. Life isent worth living if you cant enjoy the good things. I practice moderation, but it just doesnt work for me. I guess it could be because of my fucked up schedual, like today I must of only eaten a few pieces of bbq chicken and some mac and cheese. (been in and out all day) |

I live around so many know-it-all nutrionalists and didn't follow my own successful routine. That's what I get for not paying attention. I'm not going to diet. That's not my problem. It's just not moving around enough and pumping iron as usual. Actually I don't eat enough. I eat maybe one meal a day and the rest just snacks or slimfast. For my height and weight I need to eat 200+ grams of protein per day when pumping iron. I can't eat that much so I use rice protein instead. That shit is powerful but it's a clean nutrious form of protein without the chemicals and hormones and shit. |
I used to have a fast metabolism until I had kids and turned 40... My metabolism fell asleep somewhere between the couch and my computer
LOL |
Wouldnt watch such show
