blackjack card counting?
Hey folks,
Anyone practice it/use it? Worth it? Please feel free to express opinions if ya have 'em. Also, if you know of any good card counting trainers (software)? I've got "Knock Out Blackjack" (the book) so I was following along with that. Regards, JM |
It works well but you have to learn how to do it. Practice with one deck then move onto a real game. Then add players, noise and etc etc and test your skills.

Counting is useless unless you can find a casino with deep penetration. Very hard these days. Especially with all the CSMs.
Good luck. Read "Beat The Dealer". That is the bible. |
Good advice and info, appreciate it. I've got "Beat the dealer" here also. I'm just working on memorizing BS perfectly before I move onto counting. Trying my best here. Anyone here play online blackjack? (for fun)
Regards, JM |
It works of course but it's like having a job. You have to be 100% dedicated, manage money well, and be able to take swings without going nuts.
Good luck. |
Thanks Ninja. Was looking online for a set of "flash cards" I could use to get better with BS. I hope the chart in "Knock Out Blackjack" is the same as others..should be right? Basic strategy is basic strategy all over no?

You would be damn hard pressed to do anything in most casinos counting cards... Most casinos use at least a 7 deck shoe... Yes, this is the voice of experience... I've written software that's in use in several differnt casinos and have spent quite a bit of time in the 'back rooms' of some big operations to learn how they manage things so I could implement certain functionalities in the software.

As for counting cards in BJ at casinos, here's the advice I give everybody that asks - you can train for years and work out a perfect system and you'll still only make about $8/hr if you work by yourself. I've seen this firsthand. Invent a better system (like the MIT guys) or you're just spinning your wheels. |

Here's what I've got down so far to memorize instead of referring to the card all of the time:
Pairs: Always split aces and 8's Stand on two 10's Always split 9 unless 7,10, or Ace showing Split 7's unless 8-Ace Split 6's unless 2, or 7-Ace Double two 5's unless 10 or Ace showing Always hit a pair of 4's Only split a pair of 2's or 3's if 4,5,6,7 showing Hard hands: Stand on hard 17 always 13-16 stand unless 7-Ace Only stand on 12 if 4,5,6 showing Double 11 against everything but Ace (hit against ace) Double 10 against everything but 10, Ace Only double 9 against 3,4,5,6 Always hit an 8 Soft hands: 13 and 14 always hit, but double against 5,6 15,16 hits, doubles against 4,5,6 17 hits, doubles against 3,4,5,6 18 doubles against 3,4,5,6 hits against 9,10,Ace Always stand on 19 Thoughts? The best software for practicing card counting is at http://www.qfit.com/
It has a database of most casinos throughout the country and they type of games they all have. |
Reading "Bringing down the House" Very interesting and they tell how they did it (and how they almost got the crap beat out of them a few times!)
