how important is a warning page?
 

Next week I am going to have a shitload of traffic hit my site, unfortunately it's all going to hit my fucking warning page which means I'll probably lose a lot of surfers.

I'd like to remove the warning page and just have the site but dont know what the penalty is for not having a warning page.

Warning pages have never been tested in court, so as to how important they are to covering your ass no one knows.

If nothing else they're extra real estate for advertising :winkwink:

From what I've read in legal corners on ynot and other webmaster resource pages is that it shows an act of good faith that you were attempting to protect minors from adult related materials.

And that's about all it would be good for if you were brought up on obscenity charges.

From what I understand, they can't protect you from anything. It's like someone already said, it's more of a good faith thing than anyone else.

I personally think it'd be easier to slam someone with an obscenity charge if their full blown hardcore site was right there at the root of the directory, than if they at least had a page with a warning on it so people who didn't want to be there (hahaha, who goes to www.fuckmeintheass.com if they're not looking for porn really?) can have the chance to back out.

Just my opinion though. ;) Ask a lawyer, but I don't think warning pages legally do anything to protect you.

I think if your domain is questionable... you should probly have one... if your domain is hotanalmanlovin.com.... is there really a need? Come on.... nobodys going to that place by mistake.

How many people change there warning for each different site, or just cut and paste it from one site to the next ?

Not only this, but it also acts as a great filter for your site's own traffic. Put up a small amount of advertising for your sponsors on that page to peel off those surfers interested in that, and let the ones that want to actually see your site click "enter". Hell, I even have a pay link on my exit/leave button, to a non-adult sponsor that makes me a few cents per click.

But a warning page does much more. Because there is usually only a title, a few banners and some text, it will save you money on bandwidth in the long run because it will likely be much less in size than your main page would be.

And as someone mentioned, it can be optimized for search engines to the hilt, with keywords and even hidden text if you're into that. I too used to wonder about having a warning page, but not anymore, I think it's good business all the way around. And if your free site is strictly softcore stuff, keeping all the tempting hardcore stuff for sponsor's banners etc, you should have no problems with the morality watchdogs out there.

if you can dump the surfer to a sponsor before he enters your site, why not?? It's more money made and less money spent...hell, the less number of surfer hitting your content, the better...

If you are being sent a ton of blind or exit traffic, or even low quality traffic and they are hit with an entry/warning pagethey will think before clicking. Some will leave, and some will enter.

I bought traffic, and the quality was actually lower than I had expected. I ran the traffic thru an entry page, and the quality almost tripled. The uniques were lower, (since it filtered out the crap) but those that did enter really helped boost some trades. :)

Yes Spain is cheap! Ok here some Spain promotion.
I live 35 Km south of Alicante which is in the south east of Spain.
I moved down in October last year but have lived close to Barcelone before where I worked as a sysadmin/developer
for private.com.

Well for now I have rental house so I can take my time to find
a really nice spot to buy in this area. I have a detached house
with front and back garden, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a nice
big swimming pool. The house is brand new I pay: 500 dollars per month for it.

Tax don't work in this country. You can negotiate about it like
with buying a second hand car. No control, no means of checking,
etc, etc. As long as you pay some everybody is happy.

Opening a bank account takes 10 minutes and a passport. You sign a paper that you're a foreigner which means you don't have
to pay tax in Spain and you walk out with a bank account.
No one has access to it so you can put in the account whatever
you like. No information will be given to anyone,

Buying a house can be done very easy for foreigners even with a mortgage. You can get 70% of the value of the house on paper.
This value is higher than the market price so buying is very easy.
It's very common to pay half the house with cash (from the morgage) and the other half on paper. The Notary will step out
the office for a minute so you can settle the deal and he doesn't know abou it.......don't you love this?

Okay I live 2 miles from the beach, a beer in a bar will cost you less then a dollar, a good 3 course diner in fancy restaurant for
