From this I learned that chaos is still very much alive in Northern Ireland.

Where did you hear reports that the people rioting are black? Loyalists are rioting because an Orange Order parade was rerouted so that it didn't pass through the nationalist springfield road. The Orange Order called on it's members to take to the streets. This is the worst rioting in Belfast for years.

What are you disputing? The only riots that come close to this were the riots in '96 when another orange order march was blocked. Police bowed to the pressure from the rioters and allowed them to march, which in turn caused catholics to riot. I can't think of any rioting that has been as large and as sustained as the current rioting between then and now.

Probably the most significant i can think of were the riots by catholics on the twelfth of July this year. But they were nowhere near as large or as sustained as the current riots.

I used to live in Belfast and I remember walking home from work one evening during July.

I passed this street and all you could see was burning tyres, smoke, petrol bombs and hundreds of soldiers and police in full riot gear firing plastic bullets into the crowds.

Then I looked across the road and saw two Japanese tourists standing there taking photos... and I just burst out laughing... it was the most surreal thing I've seen in my life.

not even in the name of God at this point

There are tours that take people to see the various murals and noteable problem areas around Belfast. A bizarre tourist attraction that is.
