Which OS for an old Pentium II?

I need to get online a old PII over ICS in my home network, but I hate WinMe, any suggestions? I need to run photoshop on it.
Thanks

win 2k perhaps?

Win98 would be best. :2 cents:

Win 98 SE

Good luck running photoshop on it...

Definately Win98 SE. Win XP on anything less than a P3 causes me physical pain.

id say win 98 se, maybe 2k if you have enough ram

98se nt40 xppro they will all work load it with ram at least 256 higher if going with xp

i ran win2k for a long time on a PII with 266 MHz - works excellent when you have at least 384 or 512 MB Ram

using SCSI drives helps btw...

I would say BSD personally ;) but you want photoshop, so why not use *nix + gimp

Win 98 or 2k, with as much ram as you can get. I'd aim for a PhotoShop version from the same era as well.

Matt 26z 09-12-2005 09:26 PM

Win98se and PS5

If I had enough ram, I'd look at Photoshop 3.5 or 4.0...

The only problem with running Win XP on an old machine like that is RAM. They usually have like 64-128 megs max, which isn't at all sufficient for WinXp if you are impatient. :)

Processor speed wise though there is not much difference.. I run win xp pro on an old 300 MHZ celeron laptop just fine. (With 256 megs ram)
