Officials shooting dogs in Louisiana (vid)

Not exactly fresh news, but just saw this today and it made me very sad. Worst part is that some dogs survive the gunshots and are just left there on the streets to suffer a slow and painful death. :Oh crap

Article here

Video here

EroticySteve 09-12-2005 03:57 PM

That pains me to think about.

Sin 09-12-2005 03:57 PM

That's terrible... :( I'm not an advocate of shooting animals, but I'd be interested to know the reasoning behind why they chose to take that route...

phonesex 09-12-2005 03:57 PM

that really sucks

wargames 09-12-2005 03:59 PM

That is fucked up :(

baddog 09-12-2005 03:59 PM

you think they should let the dogs attack people or let them just starve to death?

the guy in the video shooting the dogs said

Quote:

1.) because the dogs are trying to eat humans... and they specifically mentioned pit bulls for some reason
2.) because its more humane to kill the dogs instead of them starving and fending for themselves
the part where the dog was shaking the army chicks hand was sad :Oh crap

according to the video, their reasoning sounds like the dogs are hungry and so eventually they may turn on the humans and so it's more humane to shoot them.. but having read the article that's not the way they're supposed to euthanize them according to the law... so it is in effect animal cruelty whatever their motives.

You'd think in today's society they'd realise to do that kind of stuff the right way instead of creating more reason for a public outcry :2 cents: :disgust :(

EroticySteve 09-12-2005 04:02 PM

People all over the country are interested in fostering and taking care of them. To shoot them is a quick answer to a problem that may or may not exist. They've got bigger problems to deal with for sure, however, this is ridiculous. Some big tycoon has rescued a bunch of dogs already.

loverboy 09-12-2005 04:05 PM

Loryn won't be too happy reading this :(

:smokin

Mutt 09-12-2005 04:05 PM

fuck them - what a crock of shit - the ASPCA and Human Society has raised tons of money, a hundred bucks of it mine for canine and feline Katrina survivors, round those pups up and feed them don't fucking kill them! man this pisses me off.

Just_Dave 09-12-2005 04:06 PM

that sucks

Spunky 09-12-2005 04:06 PM

That is really disturbing..I didn't think that was a priority :(

chazer 09-12-2005 04:09 PM

dogs are scavengers, I don't think any but the most vicious + hungry would try to kill a human and eat it.

i say they are doing it just to have fun.

Hollywood Horwitz 09-12-2005 04:10 PM

thats insane and ridulous, I live in LA and their are tons of coyotes who are starving, they do not attack humans, their so frail they run away.this is so inhumane, these dogs are not going around attacking humans..

brand0n 09-12-2005 04:10 PM

"and they specifically mentioned pit bulls for some reason"
wonder what that reason was..........

tf9901 09-12-2005 04:15 PM

That guy should be shot incase he runs out of food and water and starts eating other humans.. its "better" for him..

gee did he think of giving the dogs some food ? I could see shooting them if they were attacking rescuers or there was no food to give them , but there is plenty of food and water.

If i found out he killed my families dog who happens to live very close to there , he will have some big big problems..

citizen tower 09-12-2005 04:15 PM

Yeah, because the dogs aren't carrying any diseases or anything, you know, wading around in that cesspool for the past week. No way.

ay i don't want no part of the pitbull arguement, i just thought i would mention that... so that it would start another pitbull fight and leave me a chance to sig spot somewhere :1orglaugh

2257-Ben 09-12-2005 04:17 PM

More than likely the reason they are not telling you the real reason is because the dogs will start eating human bodies that they are trying to recover.

Excuse me, but do you know how many animal shelters there are that are full of dogs waiting for adoption already?

Doc911 09-12-2005 04:35 PM

there's gonna be a ton of law suites over the way this whole thing was handled

SmokeyTheBear 09-12-2005 04:37 PM

because they can justify any cruelty they want to perpetrate if they can blame it all on evil killer Pit Bulls.

most likely just a bunch of rednecks getting some target practice in.

you really cant see anything anyways, just some idiot cops riding around in a 4x4 shooting dogs in the street from point blank range. They shot 2 dogs right in front of their owners ( not on the video )

then a cop saying basically that they had to kill them for their own good, otherwise they would starve or eat people.

basschick 09-12-2005 04:42 PM

since they are receiving contributions, they can certainly find some more shelters for the dogs. and as long as the dogs are fed, they won't be attacking anyone. these are domestic animals, not dire wolves.

Jarmusch 09-12-2005 04:51 PM

If they really 'had' to kill the dogs, as sad as it is, they should at least be doing it in a way that cause the least suffering, with injections for example or shooting poisoned darts. If not that at least go up to the dog and shot him in the head and spare him the pain. Shooting at random from a moving truck then letting the dogs left to die, possibly for hours, is, according to the artcle, against the US euthanasia methods for dogs and cats. It's fucking inhumane also. :(

oh, us wussy liberals love animals and hate people?

That's why conservatives would rather see people starve on the street than let them collect welfare, or maybe shoot them like you and baddog want to gun down the loose family pets in Louisiana.

You love people so much you want to make it impossible for them to hire *gasp!* trial lawyers to sue large corporations when they get gouged, killed or otherwise fucked over by corporate america. Even though the whole trial lawyer 'problem' is a well-documented scam invented by insurance companies.

You want to give away our individual rights to the state.

Why are you guys so WRONG on every single issue?

Thomas1007 09-12-2005 04:57 PM

That's just sad
has to be people willing to adopt or have the spca involved.
Just shooting them is fucking stupid.
:2 cents:  :(

Let's try to be reasonable just once. You can not just "open" a shelter. They have to be licensed. The current ones are full.

Why aren't you whining about the dogs and cats that are exterminated daily because people don't have their pets spayed and neutered, or don't keep them in their yards so they get picked up?

reading this thread is enough

BV 09-12-2005 05:47 PM

That video is poorly & propagandishly pieced together. Looks like there is one guy that took things into his own hands because he had a couple nuisance dogs that were being aggressive towards them.

The NG was not shooting them, they were helping save them.
