Katrina Debit Card Fraud

I'm listening to the radio and they are talking about using these debits card being used for Designer Merchandise. Louis Vuitton bags to name one. Also, a lot of people are selling their $2000 cards for $1000 to have cash in hand for whatever it is they need.

FelixFlow 09-12-2005 10:25 AM

i thought the debit card thing was cancelled ?

No fraud there ....

Just bad money management :2 cents:

Chris 09-12-2005 10:26 AM

they shut it down
but people still got the cards
from thursday - sunday
they gave em in houston and dallas

dont see why they would sell them
they could just withdraw the cash from an atm

Herb Kornfield 09-12-2005 10:26 AM

I knew that would happen the minute that I heard these cards would be issued... Some people just have no common sense.

MacDaddyPlaya 09-12-2005 10:27 AM

Don't see where there is any fraud there.

What are they gonna do with the bags, eBay them?

I haven't quite understood the mentality of some of the people down there. The looters are stealing tv's and such, what are they gonna do with it? They can't watch it, no one is gonna buy it, I just don't get it.

As soon as I heard they were going to give out those cards, I knew this shit was going to happen. My brother and I were talking about the people complaining there was no food they could buy because they didn't have money, and my brother says...

"Just wait, they will all buy new rims for their cars or bid screen tvs"......so predictable.

Pleasurepays 09-12-2005 10:44 AM

geez.... who would have predicted that if you give the countries poorest people 2000.00 cash, that they might not make wise spending decisions? who could have known

This is surprising to anyone? Most "poor" people are poor for a reason.

It was a bad idea, period. Each should have been tied to a Social Security number making that person responsible for receipts for each purchase. Stipulations should have been essential clothing under a certain value, housing, or food.

You can't make people wear cheap clothes. what if they needed a nice suit to go on job interviews? granted some of the things they bought with the cards seem strange but you can always select a few bad apples to label the bunch. I didn't get a card but if i did I would have payed my bills because I didn't work for two weeks while the electric and internet were down

The cards said no they can't be used for alcohol or firearms. That might be one reason :thumbsup
