I deal with about 30 companies on a weekly basis. Out of them there are about 5 that need constant attention. I e-mail them specific instructions, mail them again, call them, mail them, call them, and it just goes on and on. More and more it seems that is the standard routine for many businesses. It doesnt matter how much you pay them, they just cant do it right (or do it the first time you ask). I dont get it... if Im paying someone to do a specific job wouldnt you think they could just fucking do it ? And after you finally freak out they act like your out of line. Im ready to cut ties with several large companies because of this. Am I the only webmaster seeing this problem ?

I completely agree. You are not alone. I used to deal with larger companies if I needed anything but came to the (now seemingly obvious) conclusion that big companies never give a shit. I have had the best luck with the little home based businesses consisting of one or two people. I have found that if you drop them an email and they respond in a few hours or so with a decent email consisting of a paragraph or two that directly answer your questions, they are a pretty decent company and you won't have any trouble with them.

This week I called and left messages three days in a row at my dentist's office saying I wanted an appointment. I left my full name and phone number on their answering machine. They never called back. I called another company about having hardwood floors installed in a 2000 square foot studio/room. I told the guy I had the cash to buy the work immedaitely. The guy never even showed up for the estimate ! I explained to one company who needs "constant attention" that I was no longer using them because of it. Last time I called them I could hear my rep saying I was psychotic in the background. WTF ? I spend over a million per year with those people, they dont return my phone calls or e-mails on time and I am the pshyco ? To this day I still answer all my support e-mail personally and I swear its one of the top 3 reasons why Im in business and other webmasters are going out of business. |

 very true Sleepy.
pisses me off to no end. i see the same thing with many large (and small) companies. always the same issue: COMPETENCY. just do the thing you're in business to do. should be obvious, but rarely is. |

Right on. People just don't give a shit anymore. There is very little pride in the workplace.
It is awesome these days when you do find companies big or small who really want your business. LD:1orglaugh |

 Always deal with small companies!
Once they get big, find another small one to deal with :) |

You find this in all walks of life.... Good with the bad. As for the story with the dentist office, do you think the jerk off making $6 an hour gives a rat's ass if your teeth hurt? He or she still makes $6 an hour no matter what happens to your teeth - Or if the dentist keeps you as a customer or not. There's no motivation.
When you get someone good, keep them around and keep doing business with them. Yesterday I had to deal with Hugo at Igallery. Hugo had me set up within MINUTES...... Other companies I deal with along the same lines take weeks...... |

I think this happens because the owners of the companies distance themself from their own business. Thats almost a gaurantee you'll fail in the end. Nobody cares as much about your business as you do.
