at what point do/did you quit your job and work in porn full time?

I work a day job but hate it and looking forward to working in porn full time. but, of course, i'm nervous bout not having that stable income and health insurance.

at what point is it smart to quit the job, take the plunge and go 100% over to the biz?

I need to hear stories from people here who left a job to work on your porn biz full time and glad you did. Or maybe some of you regret it doing it or did it too early?

Yes there's no other options than Internet porn or selling your brown hole in the streets to get another hit of crack. Basically.

You do it like most of us did.
Part time until you find it's bringing in more money than the day job.
But beware there are a load of "failed" out there. Being a pornographer is most men's dream, the problem is it aint that easy.

playa 02-21-2002 10:05 AM

my advice to you is,,, if you have enough money to last for 3 months without any incoming income and a high credit card limit,,, then you should quit your day job,,,,,

Ron2k1 02-21-2002 10:30 AM

Ik think you should at least make sure you have alot of money on your bank account left before you quit your job, heh..

I lost my job back in September because of the Sept. 11 attacks... I was working in the marketing department for a Corporate Housing Company that rented out apartments to business travellers. Then In December I found a great job working for a company that I thought would be my future and then they laid me off 2 weeks ago!!

So I just said fuck it! I don't want the bullshit that comes along with working for someone else! I make way better money doing porn than I did working for someone else...

I say go for it and find out what happens!:Graucho

I recently told my boss that i wanted to quit my work after some years as a little office slave :)

now i just got 5days left so i don't really know how it will work out as your own boss but i hope it will be alot better that be bossed around.

I got 3 major projects going on and one of them bring some income right now (non-porn related)
And i've got saved for atleast 8months of bills and food costs.

You should first of all save alot money if you got your work left. Always take alot of time before you earn for your living if your not already earn it on the side of your work.

But i suggest you todo it.. i thought about it for a long time and after many 100h work weeks i decidend i never been so delighted that i made up my decision. :glugglug

I love having free health care... though I use the term loosely.

Even if it sucks... its still "free". :1orglaugh

I never had a job, but I work with adult and non-adult.

iv@n 02-21-2002 12:43 PM

i'm playing with this idea yet 2years, but still have full time job.
porn isn't stable income for me :(

TheFLY 02-21-2002 01:01 PM

I was going to school and working a part-time job at an ISP... the owner was just a dumb hick playing with dad's money (a gas station tycoon)... our head programmer didn't even know what a .JPEG file was... anyway they sold out all the accounts to Earthlink... we were just sitting there for hours doing nothing... I told my boss -- well if you don't need me -- I don't need this job... I can only get paid for so long to stare at a blank wall... I graduated from college with an art degree and never needed to look for a job ;) So much for the starving artist stereotype ;)

Worked at a skateshop for awhile, then it closed up and that was it for me. No white collar bullshit, never, never, never...fuck answering to some prick.

I fucking hated my day job...

Id been learning and experimenting for about 3 months (with the help of Boneprone), when I went into the office and put my two weeks notice in.

I wasnt quite making what I was at the job... but I saw potential and quit anyways.

I figured that being unemployed with no fucking money, would be a nice Motivating Factor to make some P-money.

Mango 02-21-2002 01:54 PM

I think the time is right when you feel like you are worth more than what they are paying you. Remember that, when working for a company, you are making money for them on top of what they pay you.

In my personal case, I used to lead an NOC team in a US multinational. It was great, I learned a lot, but at one point I was thinking "hell, they are making money out of me here; what if I kept it for myself ?". I took the risk a while ago and couldn't be happier. I know that my industry is not the real 'adult industry', but it comes close to that. My vision is : if you believe in your possibilities and try to do the best you can, you can make it. Some people are making fortunes creating galleries, others have successful paysites. Find the branch that you really like and are good at and chances are big that one day you'll be happy to have made the decision.

Good luck,
Carl

what do you guys do about health insurance?
I dont need much, i never go to the doctor, but i want some just in case, something cheap

cosis 02-21-2002 02:30 PM

I work for a big computer corporation and it sucks. We work 12 hours shifts sometimes 5 days a week then I come home and work on my adult stuff for a few hours. The job basically is just sitting on your ass listening to the same boring shit over and over. I do look forward to quitting however I am using most of the money I make each month and investing it in my adult business until I feel it is doing well enough for me to quit.

sweandy 02-21-2002 02:58 PM

You got 2 weeks notice on quitting your job?.. i had like 3 months or so.. :(
