And that its not really about the computer but the things you do with it and the people you communicate with through it.

It still amazes me that even the people that now me best (smart people) still think that when im sitting behind my screen im practising some out of control hobby.

Specially during arguments they seem to refer not only to me but to "me and my computer" like im some fucking nerd. Well i hate this machine more than you do!

Nono im not frustrated i just realized that unless i find people around me that do exactly the same thing like me (who would want that! ha!) there will always be a barrier between me and my 'loved ones'.

Issues they have the most problems dealing with:

A. no, money doesnt come for free for me. Just because i have more than you
and make more in a year than you probably will in a lifetime doesnt mean money comes in easy for me. I work for it, harder than you. I dont turn off my brain at 5. My brain never shuts down.

B. no, im not having a nonstop lifetime holiday that i fill with fucking around on the phone and the computer. Actually i NEVER have a holiday.. never have freetime.. this shit wont stop.. 24/7/365 im in business and working on it.
Even when im sleeping or fucking you theres always something in my brain
chewing on the next project. Im not a workaholic.. it just comes with the territory. Thats what im about.

That i have the position to go and do whatever i please and do crazy shit all day doesnt mean i have the same type of freedom as you during your weekends.
I can do whatever i want because of one simple reason; im responsible for myself because i refuse to delegate my own life to some asshole that can tell me what to do.

C. no, im not going to explain you what im doing. Ive told you the basics and even though you think im fucking around on a message board
full of nude pics and fun topics doesnt mean im free and bored with nothing better to do. Im just venting and taking a quick break so i can continue working in a few minutes. I can do many things at once: my mind is still in business even when im jerking off.

I know that when you would do that shit at your dayjob you would get fired, that just doesnt mean im not working! I am, harder than you ever will.

D. Just because you see me sitting behind my desk _working_ doesnt mean YOU can sit around waiting till i have time for you and do nothing.

Im not playing videogames: if you see mario: you can blame me, yes.

The above is the only disadvantage (and a big one) of NOT having a shitty 9-5 job. My life would be easier if i made 6 an hour flipping burgers.
Coming home would be a joy.

I used to blame myself for not communicating with these people properly.
Im the typoe of guy that says "doing some complicated stuff.. work"
and thats it.

I always figured "maybe i should explain them in detail what im doing.. what im working on".

I tried that with people for the last year but it doesnt make a difference.
Their eyes go wide open like youre explaining advanced mathematics and after 5 minutes they go like "oh.. ok.. can we go out now?".
Its obvious they dont understand and cant otherwise theyd be doing it themselves.

They cant understand that your work, what you do, is something you like.
For them work is a pain in the ass. You do something you, for the large part, enjoy. Its in your blood and you do it for yourself so youre motived and behave DURING work like they behave OFF work.

So it must be a hobby and you choose that hobby above them.

i don't make a living doing this, because i don't dedicate that much time too it, but i have noticed similar responses to my work and had similar feelings towards them, its frustrating.

If you have your own business and havent been anywhere else in your life that becomes a big part of you. Its what you are/who you are. A way of life i sincerely believe so.

If the people that are close to you thus important cant understand that part its like having a relationship with people that speak another language.

Yes, I have this exact issue as well. My family don't think I have a job and I can just do whatever whenever for them as well. I feel for you for sure, its very frusterating.

WOW! I just said this to an x girlfriend. I have tried to find a hobby but why do some boring hobby when I could be challenged by working on something. If you call me at 11 PM and I am busy working, it is because I want to!

No shit. I hate it how some of my friends constantly giving me shit about "how easy" my job is that I don't have to do any real work. No matter what I say they seam to think their job is so much harder than mine.

Well I do have admit that I'm a biz lazy and don't really do a lot of work. And it certainly isn't physically demanding. That said, if one is busting their ass at a 9-5 job they hate, while I make as much if not more than them working 1/5 the hours and work at home at my own leisure and they "brag" about how much harder they work than me, they are not only most likely just jealous, but also retarded. Fine they work harder then me, for more hours and less pay. Way to go, idiots.

Nevermind other people, some members of my own family haven't quite gotten it about what I do in nearly 7 years now.... they likely never will.

There are 2 types of people : The Blind and The Visionnaries.

Obviously Visionnaries cannot explain what they see to the blind for the blind no nothing of the seing world.

We work at home type are visionnaries. We don't let ourselves get bound up by the invisible 9-5 rule setup by other Visionnaries trying to trap blind people into doing their dirty work.

So I don't waste my time trying to explain what I do to them. I simply don't have the time to waste on them. I just keep working. Eventually people will recognize your hardwork when you're 35 and own a few mansions in the Carribeans.

It was just a bit funny the way she keeped telling the judge that I hadent worked in 4 years because I was a lay around lazy barstard who deserve nothing.

I get so much shit from people, its not even funny. Yes, i sell porn to desperate men & women or just horny fuckers in general (like myself). Yes, i love my job. Last night I got lectured for 30 minutes by two people about how I need to get a job and do this and do that and follow my dreams when I've been doing this for 5 years and love it a lot more then they care for their jobs. I also make more then them and live a better life then them.

What pisses me off the most is when I'm working on shit and people assume since it's on the computer it's not as important and it's alright if I take off or don't work. So I can hang out whenever or do their errands.

Even I feel guilty when my friends have a day off from their work and they call me in the middle of the day wanting to hang out and I tell them I'm working. I have a feeling they feel that I'm blowing them off since I am making the decision to work and not a boss.

A god I love that post...... I am dealing with this shit several times a day, ppl have no idea what they are talking about.....

Actually I work smarter, not harder... and I can stop working whenever I want. So yes, some people might think I'm not working hard during summer (true!) and can enjoy life as much as possible. (also true).

In 2 weeks I will go back to work 24/7 so I can enjoy the next summer. That's what I call having full control of your life. :)

Back in 98 when I hadn't made any $$.... everyone "he would have already done it if he could", now it's "your so lucky blah blah blah"........Funny thing is if some of them stopped spending $$ so fast they would do ok too (they don't take into account that being self employed I save everything I can... too make sure I never do a 9-5 again!), but people only tend to look at the now not the whole process and where it started....

I respect everyone who gives a business idea a shot and especially the ones who fail but continue to get up and try again no matter what anyone says... they are true champions and in the end are likely to do well...

But working online is hard to explain, just start talking about SE algo's if you want poeple to go away...

haha good post... for the pat 3 years i found out, that my maid thought i was a trust fund baby because she has never sen me 'work'... i had to get a chick to translate to her that was certainly not the case and i was offended... =)
