SEO questions inside

heres a couple of basic questions.....i hope the answers i get here from you gurus will help everyone else as well.

this isnt just about google, but i wanna know a little more about other SEs as well

does the use of javascript or any other script affect ranking?

is google still the best SE to target, or does yahoo and MSN offer better opportunities being less "crowded"?

do frames affect the ranking of the pages they appear upon?

when using multiple IPs does it matter if they are on the same DNS?

and i have more :helpme

I've been reading that you need to allow that javascript to me read in your robots.txt
I don't know enough about that stuff to actually tell you what to do though.

Any information you'll receive in here will most likely be inaccurate or completely wrong. Just a heads up for you to realize that. :)

Rough answers:
1 - "javascript or any other script affect ranking"
Yes, but depending on what the script does. If the content is presented through JS ot SUX to optimise. Its doable but HARD. Usually people say Javascript is the only thing harder than Flash to do SEO work on

2 - "google still the best SE to target"
Yes - but also the hardest to get top placements
Optimize for google, and it will work on MSN as well

3 - "do frames affect the ranking of the pages they appear upon"
Yes - its VERY important to have configured the robot.txt correct, and its HARD to optimise.

4 - "when using multiple IPs does it matter if they are on the same DNS"
Not if you ask me, but it might in the future some say, but I dont trust it. therefore I would say, dont worry about it

Shouldn't be posting other forums in here... but yeah, I would still take everything you read with a grain of salt/sand. :)

the best answers is "it depends"

and btw, google is harder to get top listings, but the others are so simple, even normal ppl claim themselves as SEO.

When it comes to engines I think right now it's very easy to get top 10 listings in MSN with blogs - all my blogs seems to rank high for the keywords I'm focusing on and Ihave not tried to optimize them for MSN at all :)

I don't profess to be a guru but here's what we've found;

1) java script redirects, no on the page but via linked .js fils, has worked well for us ... likewise another tip is a 1x1 div up top of your page holding nice keyword rich text works well.

2) we've found that Ask and a few others, including Yahoo, have been just as good for traffic if not better then Google.

3) we've played with a few framed solutions but haven't been nearly as happy with the result as say an iframe.

:2 cents: :thumbsup
