Zend yo!

abadfish 09-11-2005 12:11 PM

I use SubEthaEdit and Dreamweaver MX 2004 on Mac. I guess I really just use DW for integrating it into html.

Inspired by this thread i played the last few hours with several editors.

Lowend so to speak (not the zend and other expensive editors):

www.Crimsoneditor.com is cool and fast.

but the award goes to editplus for the cliptext option (dont know if ill actually end up using it but still).

Downsides to these editors: loading time which is better for crimson.

Im used to opening a directory local with my ftp app and hit "view" which launches notepad and i do the editting -> save -> hit enter (upload) -> close notepad.

These editors take a second to load which might get annoying so i have to get used
to opening the editor and use the tabs to manage the php files instead of closing them each time. Hope that makes sense.

Also like the upload features both editors offer but i think it could have been implemented more efficient.

If it wasnt for the cliptext id go with Crimson!

Edit:
Also the php CTL file which must be downloaded seperatly doesnt seem really helpful. Looking a function up takes just as much time as typing it if you know these things by heart like i do.
But i have my own routines which i currently reuse from copying them from a buig textfile so this might be convenient. Well see.

if you're making money with php you really should invest in a professional tool such as zend studio, a convinient tool that saves time by increasing productivity.

ghood 09-11-2005 04:18 PM

Only vim!

Matt 26z 09-11-2005 04:47 PM

I only use EditPlus after trying pretty much all of them, but I'm downloading that Zend Studio now to check it out.

Anyone know how to set the directory index on the left to follow the last opened file in 2.20?

Tried it. I like the textclips they have in there and an overview of the functions and classes you use on the left.

But the thing is buggy (specially the preview options which are in the way (read: unusable unless you do some hacking). Maybe the 3.x release will do good.

That's PHP Designer 2005 I mentioned earlier.

It's slow here by NO reason and is quite buggy (a simple bug, but still bug: when window loses focus, cursor coordinates resets to 1:1... it corrects itself as soon as you type something though, so no big deal, just an example).

SilverTab 09-11-2005 10:14 PM

Dreamweaver here....

I tried like 2 bazillions different editors...I always come back to DW...I guess it's mostly a matter of what you're used to work with.... you will work faster with a program that you are familiar with...
