are there any worth the time it takes to download them?

my icq has been fucking up ALOT lately... AOL's AIM crap is junk... fuckin' thing won't even connect past my router.... what else is there?

I use MSN messenger...it's gay, but solid...mostly.

Does your router/firewall device support port mapping? This could be a reason why AIM craps.

I've also heard about Yahoo Messenger. Haven't tried it though.

About the issues with icq - get icq99. It should work just fine.

also tried trillian, but found it to be rather gay too... too much shit to go through... I don't have all those accounts it's trying to consolidate... just need someting stable... I hope to GOD it's not gonna turn out to be MSN.....

absolutely.... I went into the router and tried changing up all kinds of shit, but in the configuration in AIM (if you can call it a configuration screen) really doesn't give you a whole lot of options... pretty much "Check here if you have a modem" & "Check here of you're on a LAN".... not much in the way of doing anything else in there....

I guess this one is up to bat....

Okay... I finally got AIM working... stupid port oversight on my part.... but this thing is even more gay than MSN.

I use SIM -- Spacedog Instant Messenger. It's great, except you can only instant message yourself.

Microsoft netmeeting works well.. no typing. just talk like on the phone..
Works great if you have webcams, you can see who your talking to..
I used it for the first time the other day.

I was having hell with my icq too....... the other night it just completely crashed on me, I did an uninstall and a reinstall and when I reinstalled it, this copy I picked up off of the icq site had no ads on it, it's been working better than ever. Don't ask me how it has no ads, I downloaded it from icq.com on January 15th, but it hasn't got the first ad on it.

Maybe it is all those ads that was messing mine up.

Yep.. Yahoo is good, and Tam.. you can use your webcam on it too. Also has pretty good voice chat.

If ICQ works it is a great program.
But their servers are overloaded or so with their annoying ads.
Most of the time it says unable to load the page so that looks like their server is overloaded.

I had alot of problems with ICQ and still have some problems.
Mostly that I don't get msges from people or they don't get mine.
Cleaning your ICQ history might help.
And upgrading to a newer version worked.
But since AOL took over ICQ it just sucks.

I use MSM and ICQ both.
MSM is okay.
Not so much bullshitting as ICQ
