well, unfortunately, I am not in possession of the state-of-the-art timemachine-technology. But as soon as I find a retailer, I will get some and then... hahahahrharharharhar... you get the point.

Some of them live in our time-period, some live in the future, some in the past. Some switch ages just like other people go on holidays... "Hey darling, how about a trip to the dark-ages?" "Oh, sounds exciting..."

What's so unique or special about our current time period that they would want to live here or be present ?

yeah that's my guess... I mean why not... if you're able to timetravel, you don't have to care about making money for long and after you got all you want, stuff gets boring so you just float from age to age witnessing the most exciting events ever happened...

Why wouldn't they spend some time here? To put in another perspective, just because someone lives in Los Angles doesn't mean they don't visit London, Tokyo, or Newark from time to time for business or pleasure.
