What are you guys paying for satellite TV?

Today I realized I'm paying $60 for my cable service and I don't even have anything "extra". No HBO, sports package, or anything like that. Its digital cable, probably a couple hundred channels total but we watch less than 10-15 of them. I want to get the HD service added, so now we're probably talking $65-70 monthly for a TV I watch all 3 hours a week of.

What are you guys paying for satellite? I need all of the main network channels, HD, and other popular channels like ESPN, Discovery, History, Comedy Central, etc. I also need 2 of the set-top boxes for 2 separate TVs, a third would be fantastic but not necessary at all.

Oh, also, mention your carrier and the setup cost.

This package would be pretty good, with 2 receivers it would be $50 monthly. Add HD and it would be $60 verses the $70 I'm facing now. Don't know if switching everything is worth the $10 savings, though I am pretty pissed at my cable company right now.

Is there any way to add HBO to my package?

I used to have dishnet. Had the dual LNB dish. 3 recievers ($5 extra each) HBO Shotime package. Tjink it was around 80 bucks.

Also had DirectPC Dish for internet. That was another 100 something.

Thank god I moved.

Have digital cable now, way way better. Especially if you live where it rains alot.

I had Directv for 5+ years and got rid of them last year for digital cable. Some much cheaper it isnt funny. Only thing I miss is Sunday Ticket :(

Check to see if there is more than one cable company in your area because if there is they will give you a better rate to switch. I have broadband & all the pay channels for $90 a month.

About $100 a month for all the channels available, 2 lines, local stations and TiVo. DirecTV.

I pay like 60 for Brighthouse with HBO, and 35 for a dish with a couple Brazilian channels.

Furious_Female 09-09-2005 08:14 PM

I pay $120/month for DirecTV and I only watch Nick @ Nite and TVLand and a few news channels. I should cancel the 20 HBOs or something :Oh crap

I pay about $55 per month with DirecTV with Tivo and 2 receivers, expanded lineup and local channels.

Slightly off topic, but has anyone heard about a possible nagra2 hack on the free-to-air receivers? I have read a few places that people are getting some of their dishnet channels back again on those FTA receivers. Maybe the hackers will be back in business sooner than everyone thought.

I have Expressvu now here in Canada, which costs $86+ tax and includes basically all their english language channels, except for Playboy and the "gay" channel. But you only get 3 HD channels for that price...it is another $10 a month if you want all 27 HD channels.

(Canadian prices)

DirectTV with Tivo and the "local channels" package - $60 a month.

On a related note... for the last two or three days I've been getting the movie channels free. I just spent two hours watching some goddamn Julia Roberts movie on Encore (or Starz or some other shit I can't remember) from 15 years ago and crying through 3/4 of it. Bleh.

Jer 09-09-2005 09:06 PM

I'm paying $52 for my cable service and I don't even have anything "extra".

iwantchixx 09-09-2005 09:16 PM

im paying 57 a month for about 300 channels on StarChoice

Here's another thing I'd like to know but I'm too lazy to make a thread about it:

Is Cinemax PORN now??? I was picking it up 2 nights ago and it was nothing but people fucking. Completely naked... really doing the deed, showing the whole thing. When did that happen?

kristin 09-09-2005 09:33 PM

Do you people really watch that much TV or do I really just spend that much time behind the computer?

We use to have a cable/phone/internet package through Cox for $99/month. Well when we switched to business for internet our package was null and void. So we decided to get a few extra channels like HBO and Starz. First of all, I realize we don't watch TV that much and shouldn't pay for it, second thing I realized was when I do watch TV, there ain't shit on ...

The only TV I watch is while I'm eating dinner. I do like watching TV shows on DVD though, which is more like watching a movie than TV. But you're right, any time I do actually sit down to watch TV there is never anything on.

Jim_Gunn 09-09-2005 10:56 PM

I have the DirecTV service with Tivo and most of the movie channels (not the sports though) and I pay about $106 month, actually $115 this past month for some reason.
