Guess who prevented NO from building flood protection
 

Back 40 years ago the Army Corps of Engineers had a plan to build real flood barriers - but guess what - the environmental group "Save Our Wetlands" filed a suit in court to stop it:
"The crux of the suit was that the control structures would sharply reduce the natural flow of ocean water into the lake, damaging shellfish and other aquatic life. Opponents were convinced that the barriers would cause an environmental disaster. They said it would drain the wetlands, leaving it "extremely susceptible to hurricane tidal surges."

Of course the funniest part is none of the people that were involved in the suit could be reached recently for comment about Katrina - all of their houses were underwater :1orglaugh

recent declassified documents prove Bush was the leader of "Save Our Wetlands" 40 years ago.

Trees are a critical part of the entire planets eco system. We've been destroying forests and now you're seeing the results of that destruction.

Research what happens in Haiti when a hurricane passes by them. They've deforested their land to the point that all the water just rushes down the hillsides. In Hurricane Jeanne last year over 6,000 Haitians drowned as many as are probably dead from the storm that just hit us.

Take care of the environment and it will take care of you.

Don't take care of the environment and it will eventually kill us all.

You guys do know that the destruction of thousands of hectares of wetlands protecting New Orleans is part of what caused this flooding, don't you?

The tree huggers aren't the only people who have said that wetlands loss could cause a storm surge like this to fill that lake and flood the city.
