If anyone wants to help a specific family that was displaced by the hurricane...

I talked to my aunt yesterday and it seems that her and my uncle have taken in a family that lost there home from the hurricane. She was out volunteering at the local shelters and one of them was located at a campgrounds.

While she was at that location she heard a baby cry from a tent and ended up talking to the people. They had been living in the tent for several days so she offered to let them come stay at her home. They are by no means well off and just lost their son a little over 2 weeks ago but couldn't just let them stay out at the campgrounds with their children. I just thought I'd let GFY know that if they wanted to donate to something a little more specific any help would be appreciated.

There are a total of 5 people staying in the family. A husband and wife, 2 daughters ages 7 and 11 I think, and a 9 month old son. They are currently sleeping on air mattresses as my aunts house is only 2 bedrooms. I was told the husband worked online writing for some type of news site but I didn't ask if they managed to bring their computer or if he still has a job but I can find out if someone would like.

Anyhow, just thought I would throw that out there. If anybody wants to ship something they think would help I can get an address for you. Just drop me a line at [email protected] and let me know.

By the way, they did get them over to the salvation army to get a few items of clothing. I don't know anything specific they might need aside from the obvious but I can find out if need be.

Also, one of our own is currently in Houston after evacuating to the superdome and then with family. I believe he lost everything as well so that is another option. http://www.gfyboard.com/showthread.php?t=513910

Thanks everyone and all well wishes will be sent to them too.

I've been thinking about doing just that, although I'm in Colorado. I have a 6 bedroom house on a couple of acres. Just not sure if I'm up for feeding a family of 5. Are they getting any benefits for food or anything?

We are checking to see if they are eligible for anything. They were living in a tent so they had no idea what, if anything was going on with that.

Best of luck to them. I honestly wish them all the best.

If you weren't so prejudice I would have considered sending something but this is neither the time nor place to talk about that.

I'm not a religious man (agnostic in fact) but I will say a prayer for them as I did for the rest of the poor souls with the off chance that there actually is a god...or God. Depending on which way you look at it.

Again, best wishes and I hope they get back on their feet.

Goodluck.
