There was a guy from China who setup all of his sweatshop workers to farm for him. The guy was making serious dough by pooling all of the gold and items his people get.

completely missed what he said.

He was asking about people that farm virtual money, virtual items from online games and sell them for real life money.

I farm coins in the SNES version of Zelda. Once I have a lot I trade my game for theirs and start over.

SNES??? :helpme :helpme :helpme

This trade is like anything else: If you can source the labor cheaply enough, you'll make money. When I played a little WoW earlier in the year I ran into a few of them, and then had the ones that knew basic English translate my questions in Chinese like "Where can I find the best shit man" etc, lol.

Then it got to the point that whenever they found something of interest, they'd privately message me before putting it up at auction, and I'd have a chance to buy it first at a discounted price. Gold is easy in that game, I had 2000g in less than a month. In fact the whole game was too easy now that I think about it...

hahaha should put some of his flip legions on it, seriously. He could do well with it because the infrastructure is already in place.

Exactly.

Sosa 09-08-2005 12:53 PM

Sorry about that :)

Am I the only one who got visions of a guy picking video games off a stalk in the garden?

damn, according to that site...my WoW account would be worth around 700 bucks.

not to shabby. i guess ill sell it when i get tired of the game.

Stamen 09-08-2005 01:51 PM

Back when Everquest first came out me and a friend would take shifts leveling up characters to 50 and then we'd sell the character on ebay for like $2-5k, which was good money for a couple of high school kids.

I did some farming in Diablo 2 for awhile too, but haven't done any since.

warlock5 09-08-2005 02:31 PM

There has to be a good profit margin in this because there are a handful of companies bidding over $1 a click for PPC advertising -- and this is just for "world of warcraft."

"world of warcraft gold" has 4 sites bidding over $3 a click on overture.
