Muscle weighs more than fat: agree or disagree?

I've always beleived that muscle weighs more than fat. My background includes 3 years as a fitness instructor back in the early 80's, and over 15 years working in health care after that. I'm of the mind that muscle tissue is denser than fat tissue, thus the same volume of muscle would weigh more than an equal volume of fat.

But the person visiting me from the US right now says different.

What do you think? (and why?) If you can show any kind of proof, please do.

yes - correct
muscles weigh more than fat

i think that you probably are lonely and obviously do not have company over,

who discusses: "o muscle is heavier than fat"? NO ONE.

or you are both just losers with nothing to talk about and are about to watch all 6 episodes of STAR WARS back to back to back to back to back to back.

Gravity exists: yes or no?

of course muscle weighs more than fat.

wdsguy 09-05-2005 02:42 PM

You know pal, I am starting to question your fucking sanity. Do you have to have your switch set to "asshole" ALL the time?

Fuck man, eat some liver.

We were watching the movie "Supersize me" and it was said in there that muscle weighs more than fat, and my company disagreed. Is that so hard to imagine?

Metaboy... you're a fun guy. :D

XxXotic 09-05-2005 02:43 PM

wrong, one lb of fat weighs the same as 1lb of muscle. There's no weight difference, its a matter of density. Muscle is more dense then fat

justsexxx 09-05-2005 02:44 PM

Muscles are heavier then fat yes.

Although 5 kilo of fat is just as heavy as 5 kilo of muscles :D

ack!!!!!

Ok muscle and fat weigh the same, a gram is a gram.
I think you all are thinking of volume though, fat takes up more room than muscle.

drama 09-05-2005 02:46 PM

If you had the same volume of both the muscle would weigh more.

Muscle is more dense than fat and thus weighs more.

It goes by volume, sorry. You are wrong.
Of course 1 pound of each weighs the same... one pound.

But 1 square cube of muscle weighs more than one square cube of fat, because as you said, it's DENSER.

Shit man, a poud of feathers weighs the same as a pound of iron. :D
