Oxeo or e5hosting virtual hosting for my blog?

I really need to move my blog.. It's currently on dreamhost, and their mysql servers are just WAY too slow.

I was looking at Oxeo because they're one of the 'big boys' with a decent price for their 500gb package, and then I saw e5hosting's package,
which beats it by a couple bucks a month, and has an overage fee of $0.25/gig!!! (plus, I love the speed of their freehost)

Anybody have experience with either of 'em??? I need FAST servers, complete with fast Mysql, and zend optimizer support!

Plus support for dummies :) I'm gonna need help moving all my stuff over :)

chaze 09-04-2005 02:13 PM

cheap and big doesn't always mean better http://www.charlesyarbrough.com/pics/smiles/nono.gif

But I guess of their free host is good then they should be able to run a good paid host. I would guess.

Do a search form them here.

Realpascal 09-04-2005 02:16 PM

Go for E5hosting. Anthony is great :thumbsup

Oxeo ?.. Hmm..http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=510008

FrankWhite 09-04-2005 02:18 PM

go for oxeo, they are great.

Lycanthrope 09-04-2005 02:20 PM

Or... you could get your own managed server for $49.00

1) move your mouse over hyperlink
2) depress and release left mouse button

jawanda 09-04-2005 02:31 PM

OK.. you just told me how to click a link. You must be a real interweb-thing expert.

Does that really come with a 1Ghz+ processor? What kinda Commodore is that ?

fris 09-04-2005 03:30 PM

i have heard horror stories from someone about oxeo when they tried to move servers, they fucked with their data.

and what are you paying for 500 gig?

kaori 09-04-2005 04:14 PM

the 500gb virtual is $80/mth at e5hosting, and $100/mth at oxeo....
both come with about 2.5gb storage, and all the goodies...
overage is $.60 or .65 at oxeo, and .25 at e5....
oxeo is managed, I dunno about e5, but it does have their custom control panel..

it's a tough choice :)

This is not a deal.

directfiesta 09-04-2005 05:23 PM

A deal:

Dedicated
Celeron 2.4
512 megs memory
40 gig H.D.
Remote boot port
Pier1 500 gig bw

89.00/ month, no setup.

It is when it is fully managed and includes full backups. A perfect setup for somebody that wants their own server over a virtual account for whatever reason.

Is this setup managed? Does it include backups?

Yes? Then it is a good deal.
No? Then there are many better deals out there.

I am not in a pissing war with you ...

The guy never specified managed or backups ...

Managed : basic yes ( having the server with proper library, but I will not hold his hand to install a script ). BU are available, but at an extra cost.

If he is a complete newbie, he should go with a service like yours. :thumbsup

Heh, I'm a newbie... hence the:
"Plus support for dummies I'm gonna need help moving all my stuff over"
also not a guy, but that's okay :)

I don't think I want dedicated.. I don't know enough for that.. It'll be my next year's upgrade :) Besides, I'd feel bad having a server the speed of my last machine :p I'd want at least a true P4 2ghz with a gb of ram... But I don't want to spend more than $100/mth, and I need 500gb transfers on fast networks :)

e5hosting rocks

kaori 09-04-2005 07:35 PM

directfiesta: sounds very interesting... how many domains does that support, and how fast is the mysql???
does that include periodic backups and stuff??? I'm coming from Dreamhost which basically is idiot proof :)
I've got 2 domains with wordpress and menalto gallery
and 1 domain with.. umm... monster toplist I believe..
I'd like to have 5-6 more little crappy domains for free sites as well..

20 domain names
unlimited " add-on" domain names

At the present time, back-ups are not included. I ordered a 250 gigs hd to be added to that machine. Then daily back-ups will be done. If you want the feature, it will be an extra 5.00 a month.

Wordpress is on Fantastico ( here is one site hosted on that box with wp : http://seoblackhat.com )
I do not know of the 2 other sripts. If you transfer your sites thru Cpanel or Ensim CP, all will be transfered, no re-install needed. Otherwise, scripts must be reinstalled, then Data Bases .

You can try to move on site . You will see with the IP as url the speed and functionality of the server.

chaze 09-04-2005 08:03 PM

Unless your admin or want to spend time manging your server go with virtual, in some cases virtual is better then dedicated especially if the dedicated is a celeron or on over subscribed cheap bandwidth.

I would ask for a i.p. that's on the same network as you and post it here so we can test it for you.

If it's on cogent or verio you migtht as well run a server from your dsl it will be better.

Not the IP I gave, since she was looking now for virtual. This is in NJ ( right outside NYC ).
I have other boxes located in Montreal. directly linked by BGP to Peer1 Networks, Sprint/GT and Teleglobe.

You better try unmanaged ZipServers for $99/month... 1200GB bandwidth and fully dedicated server... cheapest offer on the net! ;)

I have an account in Oxeo and my sites are running fast. Their support is one of the best i have seen. I have answers to my questions in minutes. I cant talk about e5hosting i didnt try them.
