What's the most stripped down IM software you can think of?

Got a buddy trapped behind a Mexican University firewall on a shitty 266 laptop...and all chat rooms are blocked...any thoughts on IM software that would let us communicate?

yahoo messenger will work through http port 80 if no other ports are allowed to be opened.
