The looting, while unfortunate, doesn't shock me. It's like putting a kid in a candy store. If you have lots of people that can't afford plasma tv's a minority of them will take the opportunity to steal it when nobody is around to stop them. Most people, regardless of how poor they are, did not loot. Some of the looters were children, adolescence. It doesn't make it right, but it's something that is bound to happen given the situation. If they can be rounded up and justice meted out to them (put in jail) that would be ideal.

With regard to race, I'll leave you with one thought. A black guy once told me that until I have a child I will never understand what it's like to be a father/parent. I can try to intellectualize it, but I can never really know until I experience it first hand. I can only understand it on a superficial level. He said that being black is a lot like that. He said I can never really know what it's like to be black in a white society unless my skin is black. He said that because of this people may make judgements about behaviors without really understanding why those behaviors come to be expressed in the first place.

There is a book called Black Like Me written by a white man in the 60's who bleached his skin black to live as a black man in the South. He discovered many revelations that he could never contemplate until he changed his skin color. I don't know how the procedure is done, but if you think you know what it's like, maybe you can try it for yourself and see what it's like to live as a black person. I don't think any of us will, because somewhere deep inside, we know we wouldn't be treated the same.

I could say, with probably more accuracy, that if it was an all white situation, 'there's no doubt' that there would be a small percentage of idiots that would be doing the same idiotic things.

My bad on the misread, but the point still remains. Living in the 60s is nothing like today. And my point is this, people talk about such things as the lynching of African American's and they rightly condemn it. But these same people fail to realise that the situation has essentially reversed TODAY. For example, once a black boy got killed for whistling at a white woman, horrible thing for him to be killed for.

But now lets look at the situation today, white boys and men are killed everyday for looking at black gangsters the wrong way, or walking down the wrong street. This isn't just crime, this is race related crime, these blacks have been fed the same crap day in day out by self-hating whitey's about how everything is the white man's fault. Now these people grow up, and they hate the white man, they see a white kid walking through their neighbourhood and they beat him up, kill him, rob him whatever.

I am not saying you condone this personally, but as a whole it is looked over and ignored. Black violence against white people is on the rise, and it hugely disproportionate, and it is widely ignored. This argument reminds me of a discussion I had with a black friend. I was telling him how blacks need to take more responsibility for their own communities and so forth. He started telling me that White people have problems in their communities too so why was I only focusing on black communities. Every time I pointed out an issue in black communities he would say the same thing existed in white communities. The discussion went nowhere. I was trying to show him that the problems exist disproportionately higher in black communities and that's why they need to take more responsibility because that's the only way it will change. If the situation was reversed I would be saying the same thing directed toward white communities.

The Australian issue you're talking about seems like an immigration issue (?) like the one America faces with Mexicans coming over in large numbers across the border. If it's a similar thing, I agree it's pretty bad and needs to be stopped because it will displace citizens and almost create a sub-country within the country, and that's not good.
