WARNING: registerfly.com has new scam.
i received an email today from registerfly.com saying i had 2 domain names about to expire this month.
how is this a scam? first of all, the 2 names are for .info which i have NEVER registered. second, i renewed all of my domain names for the rest of the year back in july 2005, which means i wouldn't have to renew any others until jan. 2006. they added these 2 domain names just this week because i double checked sept 1 to make sure all the names for the rest of the year were paid off. now i will have to watch these bastards like a hawk. i plan to move my decent domain names to my other registra and slowly let the ones i no longer want expire. if you have an account with registerfly.com, you should take a quick look see for domain names you never ordered. i'm not buying anything from them again. |
Not surprised, shady fuckers. http://www.charlesyarbrough.com/pics...thumbsdown.gif

do a whois and see who comes back as the owner, or where they are registered.
might be interesting. |

they keep on sending me notifications that many domains that i have transfered away from them need to be renewed and I need to pay - even though the domains are with another registar

i saw them in my box today. |
Thanks for the heads up. I was going to move a bunch of my domains to them in the next couple of months. Not now!
|
I use enom, and all of the sudden copies of my .com domains appeared as .info domains... very fucking weird. As far as I know I never was charged for them, and they are NOT set to auto-renew

i like buydomains better. they cost a few bucks more but worth the security. |
Well I researched it. Apparently its a promotional thing and they arent on auto renew, so do nothing and they will be ok.
|
Yup, RegisterFly blows, but that's just my personal opinion.
|
I think your account might have been hacked by some scumbag and he is now spamming like a mofo using that .info domain, and you get blamed for it.
or your competition is trying to get ride of you. I have seen this crap done before, you better look into it real good. see if you can bring up the .info domain in your browser, see if it is hosted at a yahoo hosting site. |

i also made sure ALL of my auto renews were off. |
what about godaddy? anyone dislike them?

godaddy is good, we use their reseller plan as the back end for hosting registration. http://www.ezdomainname.com Never one problem and their software is great. |
I just fell for this scam yesterday.
:-( Fuckers. |
I received a letter from some registrar saying i should switch my .info name over to them. Was rather confusing, given that i have no .info domains. It was a .info variation of a .com i have. And i got renewal notices from registerfly about it too. Very odd. Was never billed for it. Doesn't show up in my account.
|
FUCK FUCK FUCK
They got me too, 2 domains, I had JUST Renewed, 2 days prior, then I get another notice, and because I did the last transfer a new way, I figured it was a goof and just went ahead and renewed, I'm gonna call them fucks right now and see what they have to say about this shit! -Loki- |
And dont try their backorder. It doesnt work.
|
Called, got the call center, talked to poojab, pretty much got hung up on sent this letter to all of their emails....
<START COPY> This is a continuation from my other email, (was a problem and it sent before finished) Long story short, You sent me a renew notice for domains I NEVER HAD BEFORE, they were .info domains for names I own .com's of Some fault lies on me for not paying close enough atention to the entire email (But realy should I need to? What right do you have to send me a FAKE RENEWAL email on domains I NEVER OWNED in the first place. I Fully expect some sort of explination on what possesed you to send out FAKE emails to multiple clients (I know this has happened to others because I was alerted about this via a message forum, I then checked my emails and low and behold they were in fact .info's the ONLY reason I paid for those is because the .com's of those SAME WEBSITES were due, and as stated in the first email I had paid for their renewal via a Moneybookers transaction, and when this last email came through and I saw the SAME THREE NAMES I figured there was some mess up with the prior transaction. I used to speak very highly of your registar, but now I do not know what to think, this is downright deception and is not proper biz ethics, Imagine if every client who got an email like mine renewed just ONE domain the millions you'd be "stealing" from them.... oh wait you did right? At any rate I expect my moneybookers account credited in full no later then the next business day, and a full explination of why this happened. And don't bother with the canned "It was a tech error" computers ONLY DO WHAT THEY ARE PROGRAMED TO DO! Jason "Loki" Smith <END COPY> |

Is this company run by an adult webmaster? |
It's a promotional thing. They gave them away. You weren't charged for them and if you don't want them just let them expire.

According to their email I had these domains the same days I regestered their .com counterparts. (Which in the case of 2 of them I had for the last 4 years lol) The email came just as the prior one came same order same dates as the ones I rust renewed. This is an outright scam, never owned um, never accepted them for free zip zero zilch. Anyone recomend me another Registar that I can transfer about 200 domains to them cheap?? -Loki- |
There is no fraud involved. They registered these domains free for us to use until they expire. if we choose to renew them, we can pay.
|
the tried to get me for 7.99, i put funds in my account never showed, i sent countless emails...only after i made a screencap of the paypal confirmation did they say OH we're sorry.....fuck you
|
use namecheap.
|
a lot of confused people over this.. I'd say this is close to a scam if they don't explain this seriously good in the same renewal emails..
|
I use aussiedomains.net and have never had a problem.
|
sounds like a shady bunch of people to me.
Cripes, everyone is out to rip everyone off it seems. |

I also have a .info issue :Oh crap
|
I stick with directnic...
|
Back when .info domains were given away, they may have registered a .info for you if you owned a .com or .net by the same name and touted it as a "service".
Now it's time for those domains to be paid for so they're trying to bill you for them if you want to keep them. That's not what I would call a service! |
I saw that.. I noticed.. I had all these new .info out of nowhere.. =)
|
What happened is in Sept 04, Registerfly gave away a .info name of the .com you own. You must not have realized it was in your account and it was now time to renew, no biggie. I got free .info domains with four registrars last year and they all recently sent me auto generated renewal requests. I've been Registerfly for over 6 yrs and have over 100 domains with them, and I've been happy.

nothing but bullshit from godaddy. i only have 2 domains on there 1 from when i had a domain from netsol in 98. i am moving everything off there this week. nothing but bullshit. |

I have a few diff accounts with them, the one was at 36 for the last 6 months, then weds I bought a new domain (37) one dropped (36) now the 2 new .info's (38) up untill saturday there was no higher then 26 domains listed in that account, so if they gave those to me last year why did they never appear in my account manager? -Loki- |
ya i saw that a few days ago. i know what domains i have, which ones i want on auto renew, etc etc i thought it was funny as to how a .info got in there. for (1), i dont buy/have never bought any other domain extension other than .com
and (2), i just got finished renewing all my domains for the year so to get a "renewel" email struck me as odd. amazing what people will do for a buck. |
They did the same crap to me all year, finally I got fed up and switched. They said there was a security issue with my account and it was locked out. The only way to contact them was throught emailing thier risk department. And no one would give me the time of day on the phone. For like a month! I only have like 5 domains all bought recently. So far my main one has been disconected 3 fucking times in the last 6 months for failure to renew, and there was absolutely no way it had been even close to a year!
Register Fly GFY! I realise I'm new to the net but Im not new! That's bad friggin Buisness. When I call for customer service I do not expect to be treated like I'm bothering them! (Sorry long post, thread hit a nerve!) On a side note so far Go Daddy has been good to me! :winkwink: |
NO SCAM!
It was a promotion that they told everyone about 1 year ago. It took place about a month or so after the .INFO promotions other companies were doing. You know, the 25 free, etc.. What they did was try to secure .INFO domains for you based on your already registered .COM (and .NET) domains. It's confusing now, because most people forgot the promotion they told us all about almost a year ago. There was no charge for any of the names, and none of them were set to Auto-Renew. You can keep the ones you like, or just let them go. Why would you Renew names you don't like anyway ? Even so, Registerfly still sucks. |
Adding domains that require renewing in your domain account is shady in my book.
They should atleast make you go through a new tos agreement for each domain they give to you. |
