Fuckin A, my WHOLE system crashed.

Started acting weird last night, but I thought it was just my icq fucking up, because it's been doing that every now and then lately. Didn't get a chance to back anything up. :(

The only good thing is it gave me a chance to install the extra memory I picked up.

Sooooo, I have to find all my passwords again for all my sponsors, boards, messengers, etc, etc. I have to download and/or reinstall all of my goodies.

I lost all the work I had done for Chaldoray and Maria, so I'll have to get working on that all over again, once I have my software all set up. :(

Thank god I have my email client set to leave my mail on the server until I go in and delete it, because I've been working on big stuff for StudioXclusive and I needed those emails.

Ah, well. Pain in the ass, but not so bad in the grand scheme of things.

killerkay 09-03-2005 11:34 AM

phonesex 09-03-2005 11:40 AM

Been there before

chaze 09-03-2005 11:46 AM

Yep, been there. The hate the 8+ hours of re-intstalling programs and getting things back to how I like it.

Good luck and atleast now you will have faster machine from being a fresh install :)

On the bright side, when it happens you get a fresh system again.

WarChild 09-03-2005 12:55 PM

After experiencing something similiar, I went to a setup where I have my OS and applications on one drive, and all my data stored on a RAID mirror. It only takes a few extra hard drives and a cheap ATA raid card. All told it's less than $400 to get going. I realize I don't know the specifics of your situation or if this would have helped, but it's something to consider in the future.

Marie 09-05-2005 01:19 AM

Oooh that sucks Chase! Let me know if you still have all the info, if not I will send it to you again.

Furious_Female 09-05-2005 01:56 AM

Ouch :Oh crap That sucks! You'll be back to normal before you know it :)

Do you know what made it crash btw?

After Vitasoy, xclusive is the next biggest sig whore here. Hell...all those posts in one year, he might actually have the lead.

Get yourself an extra HDD chase and install it in your box. Keep everything important there and run your OS from the main one.

That really sucks, especially since external USB 2.0 or 1394 hard drives are so friggin inexpensive these days and it makes backing up a 'no-brainer'. Time to put your disaster recovery plan back into play.

Vitasoy 09-07-2005 06:25 AM

Lesson learned. Now get a couple of 200 gigers or bigger hds and cloner your hd every few weeks.
