12- to 17-year-olds are the top consumers of Internet pornography

Conrad pushes tax on porn, task force

Associated Press

BISMARCK, N.D. - Sen. Kent Conrad was in this city pushing a bill that would put a 25 percent tax on Internet pornography sales and require visitors to the Web sites to prove they are adults.

A report released by a group of Democrats last month said the number of pornographic Web pages has grown 3,000 percent since 1998 and federal laws must be changed to keep children away from them.

The report, by the think tank Third Way, said 12- to 17-year-olds are the top consumers of Internet pornography, based on older studies that found adult Web sites make their money based mainly on how many visitors they attract.

"This sleazy, pernicious, vile industry is in your home if you have a computer," said Jim Kessler, Third Way's vice president for policy.

Kessler accompanied Conrad, D-N.D., in Bismarck on Thursday to announce a statewide task force to battle Internet pornography and violence in the media. The task force includes law enforcement, education officials and religious leaders.

"Something has run amok in society and we have a situation in which our kids are under assault," Conrad said. "We also know that there are predators who are after our kids. They are looking to exploit our children, and we as a community, need to know it and organize to fight back. That's what the task force is about and that's what this legislation is about."

''adult Web sites make their money based mainly on how many visitors they attract.''

What a fucking idiot, I'd love to read a ''full report'' on this one.

Shit. How many programs still offer PPC nowadays? It's properly 5%+- of the total market share.

simple simon 09-02-2005 11:16 PM

I bet there is an enormous amount of 16-17 year old paysite members though

adultguus 09-02-2005 11:18 PM

I think that "investigation" mixed two things.

1. Looking for and joining an adult paysite.
2. Downloading free porn with Limewire, Kazaa, etc.

They are going to punish 1, but the real problem for kids from 12-17 is 2.

Spunky 09-02-2005 11:19 PM

Parents have to take control

underage people might be looking for it, but are unable to buy it. The guy who wrote this law thinks we do get paid for underage users who are clicking on our websites, but if they are just a bug in our stats which make us wonder why our stats are 1:1k+

Are you crazy? Parents actually parenting and not depending on the government to do it all? It amazing that the party of LESS government and presonal responsibility is usually for MORE government intrusion into our private lives and thinks most parents are to stupid to know how to parent children.

once i saw democrat i knew it was about some sort of tax. the tax issue is the main reason i never sided with the democrats. from air to tp, they'd tax it all if they could to pay for this social programs.

emthree 09-03-2005 12:44 AM

Just ploys to get attention

nico-t 09-03-2005 07:28 AM

so easy for politicians to use the adult industry as a constant doormat

hentchiu 09-03-2005 07:54 AM

no body in congress would like to place any responsibilities on the parents

probably that guy in congress was looking at porn and his son was using his login

LOL good point.

I somehow think this report is bs though

fuzebox 09-03-2005 09:06 AM

I believe it, I know I looked at a hell of a lot of porn when I was 12-17... More than I do now, if you only count recreation and not work.

MandyBlake 09-03-2005 09:07 AM

yeah i saw that a long time ago.
what a bunch of crap.
once again, people talking about things they have no clue about.

You looked at it a lot but didn't buy much, did you? The report claims 12-17 year olds are buying more porn than any other age group.

hydro 09-03-2005 09:12 AM

i wonder what they'll do when they find out tgp's are responsible for most of that underage traffic

Niqqer 09-03-2005 09:19 AM

Simple solution - cut off genetils at birth and give them back when the kid reaches 18. They should only be allowed to get horny from 00:00 on their 18th birthday! Fucking government retards.

Nice wholesome porn is healthy shit. In these crazy days of fucking mtv, 15 cent, cell phones, free crack rock, queer eye for the frat boy, cnn, and the wooting negro channel on air 24/7, porn is one of only a few ways to guarantee that teens turn out normal.

You're right, and the claims that adult site owners are targeting children are ridiculous and make no sense at all...

But to deny the fact that a large percentage of our surfers is underage is naive imo.

consumer of free porn perhaps?

u-Bob 09-03-2005 10:50 AM

Just one, the day I got my first credit card a few days after turning 19 :thumbsup

I don't think the issue for discussion here is who is paying for porn with credit cards, but rather who is exposed to it. I don't think the article is talking about teenage boys signing up with their parents credit cards.

Big Red Machine 09-03-2005 12:11 PM

That is the issue it said Top Consumers

Those lil fuckers know how to get shit for free, because i know it too and the younger one is, the better they know how to get free shit on the web.
So i say i smell bullshit.
