Why are we giving them SHIT? They didn't help us during the intense fires in BC last year. Fuck them.
|
Despite all the Canadian haters..we still do have a heart and care and try the best we can for such a small country of maybe 16 million

They have also senta few cargo planes full of gear and set aside oil for the usa.
I'm sure bush will forget all about canada again within months.. Canada who ? An interesting note though.. The american embassy in canada, usually covered in flowers during an american tragedy had ONE lone set of flowers after 5 days.. |
How about we just pick up everyone we can and bring them back to Canada. They would be grateful to find out that Canadians don't practice class-ism or racial prejudice that when another american waves that damn flag they will shove it up his ass.

The guy in line behind us quipped "Maybe they SHOULD have thanked a brother." Now most americans probably have no clue about what that means, but I suspect most every canuck near a TV immediately after 9-11 knows all too well. People here have long memories (particularly in Halifax, where the bulk of the 'refugees' ended up being deplaned and housed), and having been snubbed despite heroic efforts in the aftermath of a tragedy aren't quick to repeat it... once bitten twice shy, I suppose. Doesn't help that they're too embarassed / prideful to accept international help until its far too late. DART and other relief workers were ready within 24-48 hours to go down and start saving lives. I'm not sure if DART even now has been allowed into the zone, and they'd probably be the most immediately helpful boots on the ground (50,000l of fresh water a day would go a long way to ease the suffering of a lot of poor people in 120 degree weather). I still donated though. The peeps in NOLA have nothing to do with Bush being a fuckwit or his administration's dearth of morality. Large portions of the blood collected on 9-11 was never used, and I can't see getting spiked being at all useful this time around so I'll just keep tossing the odd bill in the kitty and hope it finds its way to people who need it the most. :2 cents: |

great post.. i agree. I donate for almost everything , but from day one , i knew donations weren't going to make any difference. They prob had over a billion dollars donated by day 2 yet they somehow can't get rig's filled with supplies to N.O. Directnic can get huge drums of diesel delivered, yet within miles people are dying from dehydration from no water.. The moment katrina hit , they could have simply called up wal-mart and paid for 1 truck from every wal-mart store within 2 states to drive straight to n.o. with supplies.. They would have had MORE than enough stuff in less than 18 hours. A rig parked at every 4 block area in the whole city filled with supplies. Even more foolish is the complete failure of the police to stay connected with eachother. They had absolutely no plan for what to do when the power/water/phones all go out at every police station in the city. Whoever heads the police in n.o. should be fired right off the bat. |
4 ships? Why would they send their entire fleet on a rescue mission? i dont get it

By the time the Pentagon has the papers shuffled to allow their own citizens on board any US naval vessel as a "contained refugee" who may be starving to death, have dysentery and typhus - ya might have to wait eight months for "clearance". :) |

good point... i was just taking this opportunity to take a cheap shot at Canada though, so I didnt really have a point in the first place. |

seems like, to all the "Canada is sending help" threads, there are only 2 answers comming out... "The USA can take care of itself, we don't need you" and now "It's not enough!" how nice!... |

I hope our Sea King crews don't need rescuing...
|

Some people have bugs up their asses about the sea king choppers thinking they're old and useless. The real problem is that funding is slacking and they're not being maintained as well as they should be, particularly the ones in heavy rotation over the unforgiving seas of the north atlantic. Toss some cash at those choppers and they'll be kings of the roost again. People shouldn't believe everything they hear, particularly if certain political partisans want the phrase "Aging Sea Kings" to be part of the political landscape in a futile attempt to do something, ANYTHING to get their regional shitpot crossburner party some traction outside of Sisterfuckville, Alberta. :2 cents: |

Blame the whole Sea King bullshit on Chretien and his Liberals (And I'm a Liberal btw) who cost the Gov half a billion dollars to cancel the contract and took em ten damn years to get a new one! I've done operations in the Sea Kings and in thier prime they were awesome! But thier prime was 20-30 years ago. You beat the hell out of any vehicle that long and it'll need replacement.
But the blame lies on the apathy of the Canadian public towards the military. If it wasn't for polititians pandering for votes with greenpeace loving hippys we would not be putting our forces in unnessecary danger from our own equipment. The majority of people still believe in the "It won't happen to us" mentality. As much as I dissapprove of blind ignorant patriotism, I admire the American "Support our Troops" policy. This is a democracy, it is up to the people to make the changes happen! |

Perhaps you should do some research on the Armalite AR-15 series. The standard issue C-7 is just a variant on the AR-15. It's a design that's been around for close to 50 years. And keep in mind that these helicopters have so many things replaced on them so often that you're basically dealing with a full-unit replacement after a while, with the possible exception of the chassis. Now don't get me wrong... there are better models out there and we would do well in obtaining them. What bugs me is this universal condemnation of what could perfectly viable aircraft (with appropriate funding and maintenance) that is still in successful and high-profile usage around the world based on little more than political sniping and partisan sound-bytes. :2 cents: |

I remember thinking at the time, "What a huge fucking waste of money. They could have rebuilt half the kings from the ground up with that cash, and had some left over for beer for the maintenance crews." Quote:

There was a period of time (post somalia) where things definately took a turn for the worse though. Hard days for the forces. :Oh crap And honestly, there may be an element of 'antiharperism' in there. Harper beats beats beats on the drum All. The. Time. Can't get him to shut up about it, which is part of the reason why he is so often associated with american attitudes and so many people think that anything harper suggests must be a bad thing.... and largely they'd be correct, but not all the time. :winkwink: |
