Torrent sites....What can we do about them?

I'm honestly not familiar with this shit. I have never been into ripping people off and copying/sharing shit that I am not licensed to.

It has been brought to my attention that some of my exclusive videos are being shared on some torrent sites.

Do any of you have experience in dealing with these pricks? Do we go after the site itself or the surfer who is sharing them?

ricks 09-02-2005 05:50 PM

Stop crying you fucking baby.

crowkid 09-02-2005 05:52 PM

Seriously...People are dying and shit right now fat boy, and you're crying about people popping one off to your gay vids....

triumph 09-02-2005 05:52 PM

Several torrent sites have been shut down within the last year, you should try to find the ones that were shut down, and you will probably find the court orders that were issued to shut them down.

xlogger 09-02-2005 05:54 PM

I think most US torrents sites have already been shut down. The non US ones have the market right now. You really cant do anything to them.

Not much, the movie, music and TV industry is doing everything they can.

GatorB 09-02-2005 05:56 PM

I'm not familiar with them either or how they work but could someone with some hacker knowelege out some files on those sites that "appear" to be movies, but real contian viruses that cause people computers to crash beyond reapir?

Yeah hacking that not "right", but who is going to complain?

Theif: "Some motherfucker infected my computer with a virus and ruined my computer"

Feds: "How did this happen?"

Theif: "Well I was downloading a copies Star Wars 3, Wedding Crashers, 40 Year Old Virgin and then what I thought was the new season of the Sapranos turned out to be that damed virus"

Feds: "Click"

Who owns torrentspy???

EviLGuY 09-02-2005 06:16 PM

Not much you can do realistically. The type that really knows how to use bittorrent isn't likely to be paying for porn anyways, so I doubt you are losing any sales.

Tat2Jr 09-02-2005 06:16 PM

I see my shit on the newsgroups all the time. Only thing you can do is brand the shit outta your stuff. I put a big url on every photo and video that leaves my desk. It's really all you can do to help blunt the pirates on these networks, and the newsgroups. I've even been known to seed/post my heavly branded stuff on such networks.

So we are all supposed to stop doing business because people 2500 miles away are having a fucked time?

STFU kid.

SquireMD 09-02-2005 06:19 PM

to defeat a torrent...do what the big movie studios do...they release several lookalike torrents (same name as the original...putting "proper" in the title is a nice touch) ...then they add positive reviews to the tracker sites of the torrents using fake nicknames (anyone here know anything about fake nicks?)...then flood the search results w/ more bogus torrents...people will get frustrated when they get the wrong / broken movie and they'll move on.....

hope that helps aaron

Trust me torrentspy is a huge site. If the owner was from US or if it was hosted in the US it would have been shut down.

The domain is hosted @ godaddy/DBP and (if needed) legal department can get a subpoena.

I think the dude is from netherlands, not sure.

That would be my take on it as well. I'm also with the guy that said just to brand the fuck out of the content.

jimthefiend 09-02-2005 06:23 PM

Sorry for the flooding.

Something just occured to me that I'm surprised hasnt to the government.

Why not legislate it so that US based isps are forced to block access to offshore sites of this nature?

I suppose that would open up a can of worms that no one wants, but it's a thought.

And wtf are you talking about gator?

Chris 09-02-2005 06:23 PM

Aaron
I had a guy who was sharing jayman vids
like HARDCORE on his torrent site

Called him up ( idiot left a paper trail even though he had his whois hidden )

Turned out he lived with his parents still and i talked to his father and his father had him get on the other line while he went into ftp and and took down his whole site LOL

the site was down for a long ass time - havnt checked it in a while ... maybe i should try to remember the url lol

StuartD 09-02-2005 06:25 PM

I understand and agree. I.e.: my opening a can of worms statement.

you cant do anything

vvq 09-02-2005 06:51 PM

you can't do anything. watermark your content.

fris 09-02-2005 07:59 PM

http://www.puretna.com/browse.php

that needs to be shut down :)

all your adult content is probably on there :)

tedwinters 09-02-2005 10:10 PM

I guess the main problem is the 'peers' share the files, the torrent network just facilitates it... I don't think there's much that can be done... The RIAA and the movie industry fought for months to shut down the big guys a few months ago... nobody really cares about the porn side...

So what about those posting positive reviews? It shouldn't take long before few people figure out that they just downloaded crap. I think you can go after the hosting company since its part of their responsibility what's stored on their servers.
