DarkJedi 02-17-2002 12:12 PM

I agree that german cars are great, but they are pretty expensive too.

gfighta 02-17-2002 12:32 PM

Japanese cars look good in the show room but that look will not last as long as a German car would.

I have a Toyota Camry. Dependable, keeps their value long. Since I have a business, I should have leased instead of bought. At least with a lease, EVERYTHING is tax deductible. I bought so I'm stuck with maximum $2500 yearly deduction.

A little off topic, but if any adult webmaster out there that makes over $10K a year off porn, reads this--look into leasing instead of buying, it offsets your revenues when tax time comes! :thumbsup

MrBrian 02-17-2002 01:38 PM

i think the best cars for the money are the subaru wrx and a coverette z06. if you want a family car, then get a mini van with tinted windows so nobody can see you :D

Lev 02-17-2002 01:41 PM

German cars are good in performance, but they are not dependable and break soon, however Japanese ones last for a long time.

yes, japanese cars are really quality... Like their cars... Mostly the Honda....

boneprone 02-17-2002 01:50 PM

THis Household only has American and German cars.

Always has, always will.
And im talking about the shitty American cars.

Lev 02-17-2002 01:53 PM

American cars are probably the worst cars ever. Design sucks, quality sucks. Not all of em but most ones.

And the Japs can't get enough of them LOL.

Jap cars are yawn , German cars are the best, in fact German anything is good except when you are in a room full of the noisy bastards :)

theWatsonian 02-17-2002 02:49 PM

Toyotas last forever.

Detroit makes liberal use of "planned obsolescence."

Just my opinion.

You can deduct a car as an adult webmaster? Isn't that a little dodgy - what business use do you put it to? Is it considered a company car?

I'm very curious about this too...How can leasing a car be considered a business expense if I work from home and don't commute to and from work ? And the downside of leasing is that I don't gain equity/ownership??

burn 02-17-2002 07:11 PM

You deduct almost anything

Freako 02-17-2002 10:41 PM

I deduct kleenexes. :helpme

Yep, if you classify your business as Consulting. Ask your accountant about this. Also you can deduct part of your mortgage/rent for the % of your living space that you use for work.

Pho, it totally depends what you are leasing for. Leasing works best for people that can deduct it. My company does marketing and promotions, so I go to meetings, I travel to develop clients, etc. So its deductible. However, if you do not do any business travel at all, I suggest talking to your accountant or tax prepaper. Note: accountant will know more details and would be willing to help you explore differing deductions.

tree 02-17-2002 10:48 PM

go buy an acura integra

best car ever built for the money hands down :thumbsup

I beat the fuck out of mine and nothing ever breaks, & i get 30 miles to a gallon going about 60 mph average everywhere! Best car I have ever owned! If you got the $ go buy yourself a NSX.

and leasing you can get fucked if you drive a lot......if you go over your scheduled mileage you agreed on in the lease they can charge you like 5cents a mile that you are over...fuck leasing unless you hardly ever drive.

spacedog 02-17-2002 10:49 PM

Classic American Cars RULE!!!!!!!

I'll take any late 60's to early 70's American Classic Muscle Car over the plastic shit they got out today..
Fuck imports..
I love how people go all OOH.. on so called performance imports...
new cars & particularly the imports aint got shit for performance compared to Classic American Cars...

And I am not talking about no damn Ferrari's, Porsches, Lamborghini's either....
those fuckers have performance..

Frank W 02-17-2002 10:55 PM

As for equity/ownership that's always part of the analysis you have to make when deciding to buy or lease. Here's the analysis I would use [probably differs for other people depending on your circumstances]:

Benefits of lease that applies to my personal situation:
since I do onsite consulting, travel to meet with clients--I can
deduct the following: initial downpayment, monthly lease payments, maintenance expenses, car washes, car upgrades, I can trade in for newer model after lease expires. Depending on the deal I have with the dealer, my initial down payment can "roll over" to new lease.

Downside: mileage limitations [this is huge if you only have one car--the leased car], you don't own the car after the lease period [depending on the car, this may not be an issue if you factor in depreciation... this IS an issue if the car retains its value over a long period of time--japanese cars or luxury cars]

If you rent ..... yes.
If you own your home ... DO NOT CLAIM PART AS YOUR OFFICE SPACE !!! (unless you have no plans of moving from that house)

The government will ask you for ALL the money back that they allowed you when you sell your home ... I learned the hard way :321GFY

Frank W 02-17-2002 11:46 PM

I guess it depends on how your accountant classifies the initial filing. Also, when you sell your house, ask your accountant if there's offsets re capital gains.

It all depends on the make/model. One can't just argue that Japanese are better or worse. It makes no sense. I don't think German cars are worse in dependability in general but they are certainly more expensive to maintain. And performance wise Japanese cars are on the same level now... take IS300 or Acura's Type S cars, they will give you the same thrill as any same level Audi or BMW. The German ones that are VERY good at performance (like Audi S4 or S6 or BMW M3 or M5 or AMG Benzes) will cost you MUCH MUCH more than an Acura for example. So price/performance/dependability-wise they are more or less the same. :321GFY

Easy question for me.
:D

I got 2 cars.
Both new. Both not leased , You cant lease them here in Russia unfortunately which is a bit of a problem. Bought them both in 2001.

(before You ask - second I bought for my wife, or to be EXACT I bought first one for her too but took it to myself when I bought the second one and actually use both as my mood commands :D)

I got BMW 318 and Mitsubishi Pajero 2001 LWB GDI (damn Japs makes them slightly different every fucking year. 2002 got colour display already. Anyway - almost full option - dont have leather but everything else).

So it's easy for me to compare.
Especially that when I bought the jeep I had to compare a lot of them honestly.

And...BMW 318 is my choice. EVEN that's it's EXACTLY twice cheaper.

Yep. My BMW is a basic third serie. Almost no extras.

But it's black. Got windows black too (how the fuck You call it English? 95% tinted I beleive?).

And the jeep got everything.

But the BMW definetely rocks.

It's all about the style. Not about the price.
German cars got style. They can be cheap or damn expensive. Whatever. But they got style.

And Japaneese - they are very good. But they aint got style.
My Pajero got everything, extras and shit.
Damn I even tinted those windows to 95% black too.
I got extra metal bars in front and on the back of the car.
Damn it, I got EXTRA antennas cause my driver thought it would look cool.
Still no fucking style.
:(

And BMW even doesnt have anything.
I just bought it and never touched.

And it's better.
Dont know why. Probably style.
Everything inside is different a bit, just a bit ,but enough, from other cars.

P.S. I dont like expensive or too expensive middle class cars. Want expensive buy a fucking Ferrari or put a "$" label on Your face.
:D

Lexxx 02-18-2002 02:42 AM

LEXUS's got PLENTY of style.... (any one)
ACURA RL's got PLENTY of style...
INFINITY Q45's got PLENTY of style...

how do you say they got no style... even design-wise the new ES300 or GS400 beat many German cars...

(on a personal note: I think AUDI is a very beautiful car A6 or A8 doesn't matter... got an A6 myself :thumbsup )

look lexus are great.. (hey, i did the website, trust me i know AAAALLLLLL about em :) they're sweet as) but when it comes down to it they're just BMW wannabe's.. audi are cool too but i gotta say i like the TT FAR more than the a4 or a6 which are a little plain in comparison.

the latest model 318's do look pretty damn slick.. :)

codecrawler 02-18-2002 05:23 AM

Gotta agree there!

I'm a Nissan freak myself ;)
