Obviously the government won't do it...

Why doesn't someone pay to have one of those air banners flown in circles around the city? You know the type, where its a small plane that flies around with some kind of statement or advertisement streaming behind it...

Have it read something like "Have Hope, The World is Watching, Help is on the way" or something maybe a bit shorter... but along those lines?????

Its one way to get a big message out to a large group of people who have no way of watching the news like all the rest of us do....

Although I guess by now it might be too late for that even.. :(

Maybe I should elaborate a bit on this... lol

Right now a large part of the panic & mayhem is that people in there do not know what is going on. They don't have access to media coverage like those of us *outside* the panic & mayhem do. They are panicking & getting progressively worse, because they don't understand what is happening, where the help is, how come they haven't been rescued yet, etc etc etc.

I'm not saying this would "Fix" the whole problem by any means, but it might be a big enough reassurance and a means of getting a message to the thousands of people out there, that they haven't been forgotten.

Think about it, no idea what's happening, and then all of a sudden rescue efforts are aborted, and National Guard comes in armed & starts pointing the guns at you???? What does the government really think the reaction is going to be????

The government needs not just to restore order, but to find a way to calm "en masse" a very large number of people, and by this point they're probably all VERY well acquainted with looking up into the skies everytime they hear an engine... (as awful as that sounds) ....and even if they weren't, I'm sure most of us have seen one of these types of plane banners before in our lives... one person sees them & then nudges the person next to them and "Hey check it out!"

It would be a LOT easier for the government and FEMA and National Guard and whatever the hell else is working on this issue to regain control & order, if there was a means of calming down the masses so that the *real* trouble makers stick out like sore thumbs that much more.

Sounds like a pretty good idea to me.

Well, have heard some of these people speak during interviews. I've not seen a single one who can form a complete sentence. My previous comment was intended to be funny and ironic. If someone were to hire a banner in the sky, it's doubtful that many of the people in question would be able to read it.

I got that it was intended as a joke and yes they sort of speak their own language down there. Hell last time I was there I could not understand nearly anyone due to the accents.

Perhaps "not all" would be able to read it, but SOME (probably more than you think) *would* be able to read it, and they could spread the word. Right now these people think they have no hope.

Or maybe I just have too much faith in the education system down there, who knows... either way, it oughta be worth a shot. If I had the $$ I'd do it.

OBVIOUSLY the banner would simply read "Have Hope"

or make it say "have hope" on one side and "Go fuck yourself" at the other side. Now that would draw attention!

Have it say "Have Hope" on the side that the victims see (the "inside" of the circle of this circling plane) and have it say "Go Fuck Yourself" on the side that faces towards the "federal" people (ie the outside of the circle of this circling plane, lol)

Maybe KRL could suggest this idea to Air Katrina. They were mentioned in this thread.

However, here's hoping someone does it. I ICQ'ed the DirectNic guy with the idea, maybe if he posts it in his blog enough ppl will pitch in to try to get something like that going, I also sent it to WWLTV which has had great coverage as well.

Here's a better idea.........

Loose the banner, and have the plane drop water and food. Nah, you're right... the banner would give more hope.

The problem with dropping water & food is that's already being done, and it isn't working. It isn't getting them anywhere, and the water & food is getting damaged in a lot of cases.

Not only that, but by dropping water & food, not -everybody- is going to get water & food, and not everybody will get hope. The banner is something that can be given to -everybody- down there at once, and nobody can fight over it or get more of it than other people, or steal it from other people, etc... and it could quite possibly have enough of an effect so that the people who ARE down there TRYING to do their job, could do their job.

Why not have the plans dropping in food and water have the banners behind them?

Yup, every interview i've watched on tv, or heard on the radio, i can't understand a word of it...
