Has anyone given anything to assist the Katrina victims?

What have YOU done?

And I'm not asking for dollar amounts you donated. This is far from an ego contest. I just want to be sure that everyone pitches in. Think about it this way; GFY has roughly 50,000 members. If each one of us gave only a dollar that's $50,000.

I did donate quite a bit to the American Humane Society and I have agreed to foster up to 10 dogs and 10 cats until their owners are found.

It might not seem like a lot but when you give a little to someone that has nothing it's everything. :thumbsup

Yes I have donated money since that seems to be what they are most in need of

If someone is looking for a good place to donate you might want to check out

http://www.sohmission.org/

This is a homeless shelter in Houston that will be taking in 250 to 400 people that were affected by the hurricanes. Also, there are people contacting them offering their homes up to these people so they will actually help more as they can move them out to those offering help.

Just another option to look at and I'm sure some would rather do something like this than donate to Red Cross etc.

Edit: Here is a list of some of the items they are in desperate need of.

Towels Shampoo
Wash Cloths Conditioner
Baby Needs Toothbrushes
Diapers Shaving cream
Baby food Razors
Bottled Water Deodorant
Combs Lotion
Hair brushes Clothing
Cots Mats
Pillows Bed Linens
Over the Counter Medications
Feminine Hygiene Products

If you desire to help in the form of volunteering, please call 713-440-5322.

I gave $50US to the american red cross and put red links on my index, main free, and main members pages to the red cross as well. I've also added the interdictor blog to my livejournal friends. What else can I do?

I offered my guest room to a displaced webmaster and his wife.

I saw on the local news (Louisville) tonite that a few families from NOLA have made it to a rescue mission in Louisville. Didnt say if they left before or after the storm. But theyre expecting up to 64 more families.
