I can't believe our government is this inept. 15,000-20,000 people at the convention center and Harry Connick Jr. is the only person of power there.

This is being mismanaged. If we don't send them water and food by tonight, a huge portion will die in a bloody mess. This is crunch time. They need to be saved tonight - the fourth night in shelter.

We are failing them.

The New Orleans police chief says 15-thousand people are trapped in the city's convention center. And he says some are being raped and beaten.

Chief Eddie Compass says displaced tourists are "walking in that direction and they are getting preyed upon."

Compass said he sent eight eleven-man teams into the convention center. But as soon as the first team arrived, he said, "they were beaten back within 30 feet of the entrance."

Earlier, the city's mayor issued a "desperate SOS" on behalf of the thousands who are stranded at the convention center.

He also gave the go-ahead for them to march across a bridge to a dry area of the city and look for whatever relief they could find.

This is not a new problem, this has been an ongoing problem. It is only magnified now, because it is truly out in the open.

This shit happens everyday, in every major city. All of this shit, happens in Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Bronx N.Y., Newark, etc etc etc

The army does not have to do this shit in non-Black neighborhoods. For too long, because of sensitivty issues, they have been allowed to rule WHOLE NEIGHBORHOODS. While the good people in those neighborhoods, HIDE. No one wants to say anything. Fix the problem in the communities, and these issues will never hurt the black populations in America ever again. Keep on ignoring the problem of rampant crime and it will never stop.

As long as responsibility is not taught to whole generations, the cycle will always repeat. How can the cycle be broken with so many broken homes? Where are the fathers? The mothers are working 2 jobs? The kids are raised by each other, looking up the neighborhood thug.

Vicious cycle? Yes. Stop the culturely accepted practice of child abandonment you solve this problem.

I find it strange you ignore my whole post, and make some stupid comment to sway away from the discussion.

Abortion, has no benefit to anyone. Especially imposed abortion.

Have 10 kids, have 1 kid... it is not my decision. If the PARENTS (PLURAL) love those children, provide for those children, and focus their attention on those children. If you do these simple things you will solve most of society's ills. Hurt the children, prey on the children, abandon those children, provide no positive influence to those children, and you will create a group of ADULTS who act out on those around them.

I don't understand this comment at all? If they were white they'd be air lifting them out? Umm? Where you been? They are air lifting people out. They did stop for a while because some stupid bastards were shooting at them. But they're air lifting again. But, still air lifting is only good for those stuck on the rooftops. As an air lift can only hold a few people. And you're right, shame on them for sending busses that can carry between a 75 and 150 people at a time. What were they thinking?

The simple fact is that had this happened anywhere it would be happing the same way. Rescues don't just happen magically. A great many roads and freeways are closed there's no way to get to these people in some cases. Roads have to be cleared first so they can get through and it takes time.

And what else can be done? Every time they try to do something they get shot at? Should they bring in the military? That sounds good till the military and the National Guard start taking fire and shooting back. Then people are gonna complain about the military and National Guard are shooting people and what a massacre it was?

They just said on the news that in some areas it's gonna take over month just to pump out the water from the city streets. I can understand the frustration that it seems that nothing is being done but it is. What exactly do you want done? Oh ya that?s right you want them all air lifted out. Even with hundred of planes going it would take weeks at least. And that?s your solution?

I think it's easy for most of to sit back and talk shit about what they should be doing but its another thing when you're knee deep in shitty water with a cell phone and a low battery and its up to you run everything. There's almost no power anywhere, phone lines are down all over and yet communication is just magically supposed to happen to coordinate these rescues? There's so many agencies doing everything they can to help these people and what are the people doing? Sitting around waiting to be rescued. It's the last thing I'd be doing. I'd find the nearest city that wasn't affected and head to it even if I had to walk to it. It's a matter of life of death and everyone is sitting around waiting for someone to save them? Sure some people can't just walk because they've got too many kids or the elderly or even wounded people in their group. But not everyone needs to be sitting around bitching about it. It sucks, it?s a tragedy but they can either sit there, complain about it and wait to be rescued or they leave. It?s not like they?re all trapped, most of them can leave it?s just no one wants to. If I was stuck in a place with no food and water I certainly stay there.
