Are we not dropping food or supplies?

If not..what the fuck why not?

I don't think W is doing much of nothing..

or please tell me something I don't know.

What you don't know is that despite the fact that you can post in seconds and that CNN can show you the problem in seconds.... that in the real physical world, all of these things take TIME.

Think about what has to be co-ordinated, how many people have to do how many things in a certain order, how long it takes to load and truck things....

I swear that people on this board have such a twisted view of reality.

You should try working on construction sometime. For a while in my life I was running heavy equipment... even with tight schedules and working around the clock, THINGS TAKE TIME TO DO. Stuff has to be done in a certain order to enable things to happen, if one piece has a problem, everything else is held up, if one person along the process screws up, it can through everything off.... there are problems, and processes that you haven't even thought of in order to make all these things happen.

There is no magic wand.... and things don't happen that fast except in the movies.

Hell, the fastest that we can send in the 82nd airbourne is 48 hours.... and that is with minimal supplies, ammo and support that will only last a couple of days.

The American Military should have been prepared. They knew it was coming.

Babagirls 09-01-2005 12:15 PM

(in response to sperbonzo)..theres been plenty of time though. we should have been prepared & started working on plans. Its been since Monday, come on!! People knew about this storm & started to evacuate on Friday & Saturday before the storm. this is bullshit, the money is there, the resouces have always been there, its just simply that no one (in a higher position) knew what to do first.

for 2 days now, they've been moving people from N.O. to Houston, but ALOT of people in N.O. didnt even KNOW where to go!! Some still dont! Thats a problem that could have been solved easily.

Jason 09-01-2005 12:15 PM

fuck yeah.. we knew this was coming days in advance... now like a week later still no food?

this is retarded...

on sept 11 we had all the help in the world from all over the place.. people driving from california just to try to help...

i'm not buying the time thing... i'm thinking to much red tape..

but what do i know.. i just market to the internet.. i dont move people.

Wizzo 09-01-2005 12:15 PM

I think some of the delay may be due to the fact asshats are shooting at them when trying to bring stuff in...

Living in South Florida, I can tell you that NOONE knows where hurricaines are going to go or what they are going to do. If we spent all the money needed to have the military run around the country chasing storms it would be ridiculous.

I swear it seems like none of you guys have any real world experience at ALL.

No offense

The military? Hey everyone..where do you think most of the National Guard is?

IRAQ! That is the main reason things have been so slow to happen in the Gulf States. We have plenty of water, food, clothing and can get all of this to people if we had the MANPOWER!

That's the purpose of the National Guard. To be there is case of EMERGENCY!
But the Gulf States (like the rest of the states) are operating at 50% or less of their normal manpower in terms of the National Guard. Now other states are rushing their units to the Gulf States.

Gawd forbid some other large disaster strikes now because frankly we are not prepared manpower wise to handle it! It will be interesting to see how long it takes before the press and others start raising this point.

And you can thank GW for this major fuck up too!

OR.... You can more reasonably blame Clinton, AND the republican congress that, after '92, started the RIF program (Reduction In Forces), that took the active military down by just over 50% from what it had been during desert storm, and left us with a situation whereby our active military has to be supplimented with our part-time military. :2 cents:

Think about it. in 1990, our miliary was TWICE the size that it is now, and that all happened from 92 to 98

pocketkangaroo 09-01-2005 12:29 PM

Lets face it, Baghdad is safer than New Orleans. Glad our tax dollars go to what matters.

davethetruth 09-01-2005 12:31 PM

When we bombed Afganastan we dropped supplies to the natives the very next day. They knew 72 hours before the hurricane came that it was coming and it's been three days.

There's no excuse in my opinion.

I'm not sure if they have been dropping supplies or not, but I agree that it should have been done by now. That should not be such a big deal to coordinate.

I like to think that those efforts are not just being given airtime because of all the other bullshit going on.

We took MONTHS to get everything into place to attack Afganistan

MONTHS...AS IN SEVERAL

Greg B 09-01-2005 12:33 PM

I was just about to ask about air drops. Sperbonzo is right however that things take time, BUT the aircraft are nearby enough to do such drops. The problem is getting the supplies TO the military bases and that's off the wall because the same means to transport would come from the same lines that deliver goods and services to every other store and hospital etc.

This rescue situation isn't poorly planned, it's just poorly practiced. We do however probably may not have another day to go before many, many people die from heat and dehydration and god forbid cholera, typhoid, west nile. It should take the mosquitoes another 4 days to grow from the standing water and then it may escalate.

We're learning though and unfortunately we're learning after the horse has left the barn.

People are in the streets threatening reporters, screaming at cops, setting fire to buildings to get light and smoke to fend off the mosquitoes.

The mayor sent thousands of buses the news said prior to the storm but too many hard headed people refused.

Now look what happened.

No offense

I was watching CNN 24 Hours prior to the hit and although no one knew exactly what the hurricane was going to do most people were talking about a 'worst case scenario'.

Even if the hurricane had missed completly the government should have had a plan of attack instead of the unorganisation currently being witnessed.

Ok, when was 9/11?
9/11/2001

When did we bomb Afganastan?
10/7/2001

And we needed to actually bomb that country.

The only reason we haven't had aid to these people yet is because we're spread so thin in Iraq.

Something else most people don't realize is that clinton moved alot of the active duty jobs over the the Guard and Reserves to save money so what we see in Iraq with all the Guard and Reserves being used was Clintons plan hatched years before Bush II.

i just sent this email to CNN...

------------------------
People in Louisiana started to evacuate last Saturaday, its now Thursday and people dont even have water? We can arrest looters but we cant feed them a snack or a drink? Are you kidding me??

Not only is the goverment & President embarressing us as a Country, but its RIDICULOUS!! Me, as a 24 yr old non-political female, could do a better job at this natural disaster. If it wasnt for pictures showing the president awake during his fly-over over the state, I would have believed he was taking his daily nap.

God help us all.

MikeyFingaz 09-01-2005 12:54 PM

anyone remember the C.I.A. war on drugs in columbia? when we dropped supplies for the people of that country, the warlords basically just stepped in and took it from them. food, water, medicine, and whatever else was taken by the gun toting drug factions. basically i think that the government at this point is not willing to drop aid to N.O. due to the fact that they have not yet been able to secure safety for everyone, and that there is nothing to stop those same people who are shooting at hilo's and robbing and looting from doing the same if supplies are dropped. those with guns, and a looters mentality will basically do whatever they have to to take supplies from those who need it as well. yet are unable to fend off any attackers from just taking it from them. if you dont think our government would deny aid to an unsecure area to prevent further violence then you are wrong.

Bullshit. Since at least Saturday they knew for a fact a cat 4 (possibly a cat 5) hurricane was going to hit the gulf states. They may not have known exactly where but it was a given there was going to be mass destruction. The US govt did NOTHING to prepare for this and as of yet still nothing has been done. People can only survive 3 days without water. There should have been national guard and military units within the vicinity ready to go at a moments notice with the proper equipment to perform mass rescues. This administration has once again talked a good talk and done nothing.

spunkmaster 09-01-2005 12:58 PM

Just FYI the National Guard doesn't work for the president during disasters they
work for the state.

Jason 09-01-2005 01:22 PM

I think this was W's thinking..

ok.. vacation is boring..
the Bin Laden's left so no more golf.. (damn)

daddy, called.. I have to call him back..

damn daughters getting naked on girls gone wild..

i wonder if Albert got them porno passes yet..

oh.. and that storm that is as big as 3 states is coming to us...
(something about whipping out the gulf.. 'll just let Dick handle it....)

btw.. I need to have the SS get that crazy mom off my lawn..

The Adult Broker 09-01-2005 01:27 PM

I think the sooner the US steps in to clean this up, the sooner we will get 1/3 of our energy sources back and the sooner gas prices will stop skyrocketing.

This affects everyone. And those people need help. So either pay at the pump or send that same money to the Red Cross to help people at the same time.
