1970's All Over Again...Gas Crisis, War, Republican President...Impeachment?

Why is it that I feel it's like the 1970's all over again??? 30+ years ago we were in an unpopular drawn out war, Vietnam. We had a Republican president in office, there was a recession, inflation, and the first "Oil/Energy/Gas Crisis". Then a couple of reporters from the Washington Post cold OWNED that administration by uncovering the criminal shit done behind closed doors.

So what's wrong with this picture? Every cop on Earthcan find you if you miss one of those parental divorce payments but we can't find Bin Laden. Every cop on Earth can find that last half a joint you had forgotten about blow the floorboard of the old shed buried under the compost pile but they can't find weapons of mass destruction.

Who wants to bet some reporter or some insider is going to OWN the present administration?

not to mention Iraq has been using levee funds for years. So in a way, Iraq is directly responsible for this.

http://www.editorandpublisher.com/ea..._id=1001051313

Quote:

In early 2004, as the cost of the conflict in Iraq soared, President Bush proposed spending less than 20 percent of what the Corps said was needed for Lake Pontchartrain, according to a Feb. 16, 2004, article, in New Orleans CityBusiness.

On June 8, 2004, Walter Maestri, emergency management chief for Jefferson Parish, Louisiana; told the Times-Picayune: "It appears that the money has been moved in the president's budget to handle homeland security and the war in Iraq, and I suppose that's the price we pay. Nobody locally is happy that the levees can't be finished, and we are doing everything we can to make the case that this is a security issue for us."
To spice it up. Projects were being rushed to fix the exact location that was breached.

Quote:

One project that a contractor had been racing to finish this summer: a bridge and levee job right at the 17th Street Canal, site of the main breach on Monday.
This is clear evidence that funds being used to fund Iraq could have been used at home. If this levee would not have been breached new orleans would not have flooded.

And here is your difference.. No reporter today has the balls to do what they did than. Stand up, Question Authority,, do the right thing!

I remember the 70's well, I was ready to go to College than. People were different. Today people are sheep. From the Farmer to the Reporter.. Maybe we should give them all a book " A Nation of sheep" but they would only burn it and say "The devil wrote it, now let go and keep praying for our Lord Bush"

It's so screwed up and so very sad

Here's something interesting I was reading...

http://www.tomflocco.com/fs/PurgeTheEvil.htm

U.S. Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald might make it happen... This fall..

dready 09-01-2005 09:03 AM

The media has a lot less free reign than it did in the 70s. I don't think any journalist would risk it.

Napolean 09-01-2005 09:05 AM

nobody stands for shit anymore

people complain but they wont do shit about anything, everyones too lazy and unless theres an immediate threat to an individual.. noone will react

in a world where we're all connected over the internet to organize things in masses to protest the actions of those in charge, we do nothing

we've turned into a nation of hippie's

Steffie, if you're a single woman, watch out for me! I remember the 70s well and you are dead on target. I went into the news business BECAUSE of Woodward and Bernstein! Back then people knew each other and G. Gordon Liddy was my hometown's District Attorney! I knew them all even though I was a kid then.

When we found out it was Liddy we knew damned well he was guilty cause he was nuts!

Back then Woodward and Bernstein then spawned the likes of NY's ABC 7 Eyewitness News. Geraldo Rivera came out of that like a tornado kickin' ass and takin' names. That was before he became a tabloid dude. That's what's fucked up the news is the CIA and the tabloids. I left the news business because of that shit.

That's why I listen to Jeff Rense and Alex Jones. They don't give a fuck and report what the real deal is.

The Bush administration just voted Rense.com and Jones' websites as the top disinformation websites! Mind you, Jeff and Alex with all their stories NEVER ran a story about there being WMDs, but we went into two wars based on this shit from what source? The fucking State Dept! The same State Dept that accuses Rense and Jones of being disinformation! Talk about talkin' outta the side of your ass!

So glad there's someone else around who remembers when reporters had guts.

If you notice, in the past year all three top news anchormen have quit or died.

That's how strong the opposition to the truth is.

President Nixon was not impeached... he resigned. The gas crisis in the 1970s was presided over by President Ford and President Carter, a Repulican and a Democrat without any balls that let our citizend be held for 444 days by the Iranians.

whats the point? Bush would just re-elect himself back into office anyways.
(remember, hes trying to change the 2-term limit for a president.)

Are you out of your mind? GWB liberated 30 million people in Iraq. He is a hero.

The former dictator Saddam Hussein used his citizens as human shields.

Not to mention the additional 20-odd million in Afghanistan

The difference between now and and then is the republicans didnt have a 24 hour propaganda machine (FOX News) to constantly spew bullshit to the American people.

The energy crisis started under Nixon. Ford inherited it when Nixon, you're right did not get impeached, chicken shitted and cowardly RESIGNED instead of taking responsibility.

At least Clinton had the balls to stand up and face the music.

Carter is a former naval commander. if he didn't have balls he never would have passed. The Iranian situation was started by the CIA not Carter.

Study your history, I was there.

I'm pretty damn sure that Bush could do just about anything he wanted, and the faithful wouldn't care because "at least he's a man of god".

I'm going to visit my Mom and Dad next week. Like clockwork, their views will be almost exactly what FOX news tells them. It's always funny to go and hear the NEW reason we are in Iraq. Last time it was "Do you want to fight the terrorists on our soil or over there?". For some reason I think this time it's going to have something to do with WWII.

I've already said too much..... Sorry, I'll be a good liberal, keep my mouth shut, and toe the line. I didn't mean to be an unpatriotic, godless, hethon.
