AdPatron 09-01-2005 12:52 AM

taibo 09-01-2005 01:00 AM

i think that's actually a nice thing to do....

$$$ 09-01-2005 01:02 AM

dude, I think he takes the money and donates it. He's probably not a fucking scammer you moron.

Red Ezra 09-01-2005 01:02 AM

i don't think it is a ripoff - seems like a genuine effort

dropped9 09-01-2005 01:06 AM

He's making 5% of the donations for his "time and expenses". Why not give directly to the Red Cross so they will have that much more money? He's making money off it. Period.

I didn't see that he was keeping 5% for himself.

Most charity workers/volunteers claim expenses.

he has a direct link to red cross if you want to donate directly, but it does seem like one of those pre-packaged scam deals.. ( cheesy music in the background )

I would say my gut feeling is he is just a good person and not a scammer ( maybe i'm just a softie )

MrJackMeHoff 09-01-2005 01:50 AM

Hes encouraging people to make direct donations for large amounts so seems ok I guess.

Lee 09-01-2005 02:00 AM

His 5% is covering the listing fee etc. Current bid is $112, IMO thats about $106 the red cross wouldnt have had if that guy hadnt put his stuff up for auction. I bet that whatever he is knocking out wouldnt have gone that high normally, seems like a very fair gesture to me.

Yep, go directly to the charity. Also, be careful which charity you deal with. I used to give to many charities then I found out most were pissed on "admin" fees. From then on I gave only to the Red Cross or the United Way.

Lee 09-01-2005 02:03 AM

Actually, what is he selling?

According to U.S. law you can keep 95% and only donate 5% to charity and still bill yourself as a charitable/non-profit organization.

(Stats might be a little off but it's at least 90/10)

I'm betting any major charity keeps more than 5% for overhead/administrative expenses. If the guy's for real, he's probably helping more than the 5% is worth and if not, karma will bite him in the ass.

blazin 09-01-2005 02:20 AM

It's the American way.........

VeriSexy 09-01-2005 02:22 AM

I forgot all about this....

DutchTeenCash 09-01-2005 02:28 AM

that 5% sucks yes, I wouldnt know one reason why ppl would give directly instead of some ebay auction, what if this ends at 20k? then 5% is way too much imho...

MacDaddyPlaya 09-01-2005 04:39 AM

Yeah he is only keeping 5% to cover his expenses, but what is that ebay listing costing him? $5? And how much time did he put into the listing? 30 min? If he was truly charitable he would donate that time and money as well. Fucking bullshit to profit even a single cent from the suffering going on down there. That guy is full of shit and a scumbag IMHO.

Hornydog4cooter 09-01-2005 04:50 AM

Sounds like a David Stodghill scam :2 cents:
