Show Your Support For NO and Directnic! *pix*

first, YOUR DOMAINS ARE SAFE! Hurricane Katrina ain't no match for Directnic! For those of you who don't know Directnic is located smack dab in the middle of New Orleans, Lousianna. Directnic's crisis manager Buff has been updating his personal blog round the clock as Team Directnic prepared for Katrina and are now hunkered down for the duration - key Directnic personnel will be transferred to Florida soon. Check out the blog - it's good, CNN has mentioned it 3 times today on the air http://www.mgno.com - they've also got a live Windows Media stream that's got 500 spots http://old.mises.org:88/NO2

here's an entry from Buff's blog

4:30 PM Info Update
Ok, we went down to the ground floors to lock down the building tight since a couple of people holed up with us took off. While we were down there we surveyed a huge area of the CBD.

Flooding in the CBD: Poydras is flooded from near the west side of the Superdome down to Baronne street. All of the side streets are flooded too down that way. Baronne is the last flooded street as you head to the river. Poydras is clear from Baronne to the river.

There is no water that we could see from Poydras to the interstate starting at Baronne and going all the way to the river. Headed toward Canal St. from Poydras, I saw no flooding at all from just past Baronne to the river. That's a huge area of the CBD without water on the streets. That's way better than the warnings we got.

Looting: The police are looting. This has been confirmed by several independent sources. Some of the looting might be "legitimate" in as much as that word has any meaning in this context. They have broken into ATMs and safes: confirmed. We have eyewitnesses to this. They have taken dozens of SUVs from dealerships ostensibly for official use. They have also looted gun stores and pawn shops for all the small arms, supposedly to prevent "criminals" from doing so. But who knows their true intentions. We have an inside source in the NOPD who says that command and control is in chaos. He reports that command lapses more than 24 hours between check-ins, and that most of the force are "like deer in the headlights." NOPD already had a reputation for corruption, but I am telling you now that the people we've been talking to say they are not recognizing the NOPD as a legitimate authority anymore, since cops have been seen looting in Walmarts and forcing people out of stores so they could back up SUVs and loot them. Don't shoot the messenger....

Personal: Securing a 27 floor high rise with no elevator support is not fun. I am totally worn out. I am gonna chill for an hour, eat dinner, then perform maintenance. But never fear, Outpost Crystal and Team SOTI have knuckled down and will never quit. Never. We are prepared to go all the way to see this thing through.

Thanks again for all the support and love. One day this will all be over and ancient history, but I'll never forget the kindness of strangers. Keep the less fortunate people in your thoughts and prayers.

And keep BillyC - many of you know him from conventions and his work in the biz mostly with MikeAI's crew over the years - in your thoughts, Billy's full time gig is as a New Orleans police officer and he must be going through hell right now and will continue to for weeks and months to come. Gooooooooooo Billy!

Post your words and pics of encouragement for New Orleans http://www.mgno.com

Do they need anything critical?

A group of big domain owners has organized http://www.AirKatrina.com.

Executive jet flights are medivacing in critical supplies and airlifting out cricitical care patients.

These are private pilots who are going directly in and saving lives right now!

:thumbsup More pilots are needed.

I love directnic, and it looks like the girls there arent too shabby either ;)

BradShaw 08-31-2005 09:44 PM

I spoke to Billy tonight. He has been working 20-22 hours a day. No cars, in raw sewage, no radios, no clean water, no air, no showers, etc. He described working on a boat and saving people right after the hurricane. And he saw dead bodies floating all over, said the situation was unimaginable. He is hanging in there though.

MikeAI is arranging to get Billy to Directnic's offices to get him some rest and cleaned up.

the scariest thing now is disease - walking around in that bacteria soup - if cholera or typhoid were to break out :helpme

J$tyle$ 08-31-2005 10:07 PM

I tried calling Billy yesterday but all systems were of course busy/down.

Glad to hear he's ok although worn out!

SmokeyTheBear 08-31-2005 10:15 PM

Just curious about what the future holds for directnic and N.O. ?

They say they wont let people back in for months.. and the city wont be doing commerce for months. How do you plan on continuing ?

Have you spoken with the police yet ?

Do you think its wise to be saying things about cops , when they are the only thing protecting you from the rest of the looters ( dont get me wrong i'm not slamming you , just worried for you :) ) do you have many weapons ? ammo ?

Spunky 08-31-2005 10:17 PM

Stay strong in this crisis.Great work guys

Damian_Maxcash 08-31-2005 10:25 PM

This is something I was thinking about yesterday when I saw an article about patients dying in the hospitals because of lack of power and the generators going down.

Wouldnt the generators you are using be better off donated to those places?

There could be a good reason why you cant do this, it just crossed my mind.

Well, the beauty of what is predominantly an Internet based business as far as customers go is that Directnic has operated without a hitch throughout this - customer support even, done remotely. There are backup servers in other locations and another data center in Florida which will mirror everything - and like I said in the first post key Directnic personnel, CEO Sig Solares, the CTO and some others will move out of New Orleans soon to offices in Florida. Buff was a Special Forces Ranger in the military, served in Desert Storm, they're well armed and they've secured the building they're in.

RRRED 08-31-2005 10:57 PM

Directnic will be ok... no doubt.

Billy has a very long and dangerous road ahead. You really gotta commend him for choosing the line of work he is in at a time like this.

Turd wanted to give you a special message, Billy.

Just spoke to Billy a few minutes ago. Said he's in an air conditioned room "with friends" and drinking water with ice for the first time in 4 days.

I won't get much into the conversation other to say that he's obviously "as ok as he can be" considering the circumstances - and his family is safe.

AbulletAway 09-01-2005 03:05 PM

All my domains are with them. I won't use anyone else. What they're doing is amazing. I read their blogs this morning. I hope they're all doing ok and my thoughts and prayers are with them and their families.

Cory W 09-01-2005 03:12 PM

Yep, Billy got power today. I was able to talk to him.

I have to say, I really wish he would just leave.
