AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (Reuters) -- A Dutchwoman, the world's oldest person on record who swore by a daily helping of herring for a healthy life, died on Tuesday aged 115.

Hendrikje van Andel-Schipper, a former needlework teacher born on June 29, 1890, died in her sleep at a nursing home in the northern Dutch town of Hoogeveen.

My Grandfather is 93 and does more physical labor than most men in their prime and his mind is still very sharp, as well. He has a mixed drink every evening and has done so as far back as I can remember.

DirtyRider 08-31-2005 08:04 PM

Wow thats 10 times the age most people live. He must have had a great life.

GatorB 08-31-2005 08:05 PM

Actually unless there is only one human left the world's oldest person can never die. 115 sounds old but that french lady that died in 1997 lived to be 122.

Wow. Has anyone ever thought how much great stuff that these people witness in their lives? The downside as well is the amount of bad shit they experience as well.

I doubt she was the oldest person on earth.

BTW it's possible that in like 50 years, lots of ppl will be living that long.

Wow 1890...

Think of the history someone that old has seen. Going from the old west, to the invention of the automobile, and effect it had on the world. The two world wars, the, 50, 60, and 70's. Cold war, women and blacks getting their rights, and the growth of things what they are today.

It's like a walking history book.

Alcohol thins the blood, doctors actually recommend one (maybe up to 3?) drink a day :thumbsup
